experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making…
This July I had the privilege to walk in the footsteps of the Mormon pioneers in Martin’s Cove. Although the Trek was somewhat difficult, I had many great spiritual experiences. While pulling and pushing a handcart for 7 miles a day was difficult, surprisingly, the hardest part of the Trek for me was enduring the 12 hour long car ride back, because I had to ride in the deacon’s car with them singing along to Taylor Swift, and singing the pillow pet commercial theme song. The experiences that I…
This last summer I had the privilege to reenact an important part of history - the pioneer journey west. Although the trek was somewhat difficult I had many great experiences. While pulling and pushing a handcart for 7 miles a day was difficult, surprisingly, the hardest part of trek for me was enduring the 12 hour long car rid back, because I had to ride in the deacon’s (12 year old young men’s) car, with them singing along to Taylor Swift. From my experiences I had, I learned that the things…
My first mission trip was for an organization called 1Nation1Day through my church, Milestone, back home in 2013. The goal was to save the nation of Honduras in one day and continue to pour out love and support to the Hondurans so that they may be disciples for a lifetime. To prepare for the mission we spent the majority of the year 2012 fundraising to provide clothes, shoes, and meals for the Hondurans and were grateful enough to raise $250,000.00. Applications for the mission trip were sent…
Although travel has become so commonplace nowadays, travel out of leisure has always meant an unattainable luxury to me. For many reasons including finances it was not as accessible to me as it may be for others. Since I was a child I have been travelling out of necessity rather than for a vacation. At the age of six I left my home country along with my family and entered Europe as a refugee. We sought asylum in Italy and France until we finally settled in Germany. Although Germany provided a…
at the school. All of my previous doubts washed away when I stepped foot onto the dusty, rugged pathway leading to the small shack they had morphed into a teachers lounge. During the summer of twenty-fifteen, I had the experience of a lifetime. My trip to Kenya, Africa helped me realize the importance of relationships within one 's own community. My childhood was less than ideal, with divorced parents, and siblings who were not always the greatest role models. My non-existent relationship with…
My Trip to Washington, D.C One of my very favorite places in Americas is a city rich in history and is absolutely stunning, Washington DC is my favorite city. I've been there several times this year and every time I go back I fall in love with it, so I plan on living there when I'm done with my education and starting a career there. My least favorite part of going to DC is the traveling. My favorite part of dc is the vibe while you're there and seeing all the sights. While traveling, this is…
This past June, my family and I took a trip to Prineville, Oregon to help some of our friends with a couple of events they were involved in. While we were there, one of our friends took us on a hike up Misery Ridge so that we could enjoy the view and the experience. We talked about the hike before, and I was told it was an incredibly difficult hike, but I wanted to try even though I knew it would be hard. It was a bright, sunny day when we set out for the hike, I did not really have the most…
Scary summer camp The summer of 2015 was the scariest summer I ever had. School was out so I decided to embark on a much anticipated camping trip with my friends Melvin, Tom, Danny, Tasha, and Brenda .We stayed up for hours planning, preparing. July 20th finally arrived we jumped in my car and drove the five miles to River rock mountain. On arrival we speedily got out of the car in awe. The sweet music of the birds bombarded us everywhere we turned. We felt the soft fresh breeze on our faces, we…
Narrative Essay Till this day, I still remember the first time my family and I went on a camping trip during the end of summer a few years back. This trip had been planned for almost a month from the date we were going. That month seemed to take forever to come but when it finally came, everyone but my little brother wanted to go. The reason he did not want to come was that he was afraid of getting lost or something else worse than getting lost. The only thing I was afraid is mosquitoes. I…
