My personal commitment was with my friend Stacy. She has been my friend since my freshman year in college, but through the years we have slowly distanced ourselves from each other due to different classes and busy schedules. We were as close as sisters and now, in our last semester as juniors, have not seen each other since sophomore year. We occasionally text each other 3 or 4 times a month, which is different from 3 or 4 times a week like we did our first year of college. My commitment was to change my attitude from being distant and busy, to one that was cheerful and supportive. My commitment was also to make time to see her face-to-face and talk to her in hopes of becoming closer to each other, like we were in our freshman year. My second commitment was my professional commitment with my cognitive psychology professor and my classmates. The class was a once a week, 3 hour night class that I dreaded going to because it was at the end of the day and I was tired. It was hard to concentrate on the lectures because of the complex and difficult subject of cognitive psychology; and no one spoke to each other at my table, which did not help with my disinterest in the class. My commitment was to change my attitude toward the class and come in everyday with a cheerful attitude instead. My commitment was also to be engaged in class and talk to the professor and classmates in hopes of making the class easier and enjoyable. I had to figure out a way to incorporate a new attitude, play…
It was a game I never will forget.. We received the ball at the beginning of the game, and as we profusely drove the ball down their throats. The Clare Pioneers who we have not beat since 2006, cannot stop the run. All the sudden it is the fourth quarter and we are losing, 22-28 still driving the ball down the field we get stopped about three yards shy of a first down. So we pass the ball.. From under center Donald call Hit! he rolls right and as he gets hit he throws looking for Eddie down the…
Three years ago, as a freshman, I decided to join cross country. This decision has shaped my high school career through the friends I chose to the activities I participated in. Cross country is not an easy sport, though. It requires physical endurance, but more importantly, the mental strength to push past and overcome the obstacle of pain. By sticking with this sport, mental toughness has permeated who I am and helped me go beyond the standards and work my way through trivial challenges and…
I can still clearly recall the first time I walked through the double doors that led to the spacious choir room. I remember walking in and admiring the many trophies and state championships that sat on the various cabinets along the outskirts of the room. For me, the decision to continue choir was a tough one. I mean afterall, in order to be academically competitive in this day in age, you need to load as many AP courses as possible into your schedule right? It became abundantly clear that I…
My defining moment happened my junior year at the end of my wrestling season. The moment was not what I had in mind, but it was the best thing that happened to me. Starting in 4th grade all I wanted was to make it to the state tournament for wrestling. My freshmen year came along and I started training all year long for wrestling, it was the only thing on my mind. My junior year came along and I was ready: this was my year. The district tournament was upon us. It was a Saturday, I was up…
The freshman soccer team is a team with a lot of potential once they’re on varsity to win Winnacunnet a state championship. Right now they are proving to be the best group of soccer players throughout all the Winnacunnet teams. They have the best record with a record of 6-3, and have won 5 straight. The JV boys team has a record of 4-7. The varsity team has a record of 1-10. A lot of freshman have to go up to the JV team because if they didn’t the JV team would be very bad and they…
My narrative essay is from when I first discovered I wanted to be a teacher and how it came about. It was not a triumph or anything of that sort, it took a struggle for me discover what I wanted to be. It also took the encouragement and help of a highschool teacher that I didn’t even have for class at the time, but he was committed to helping me. My first two years of highschool I didn’t care about grades or what I got as long as my grades were good enough to keep playing sports, everything was…
I. Goal #1: Get heavily involved in multiple student organizations in my freshman academic year. A. I will use the Student Organization Center, found on www.utdallas.edu/soc/explore, and also use OrgSync to discover unique and enriching opportunities to make connections in both academic and social organizations. B. Step #1: I have already been to five student groups so far, and will continue to explore as many organizations as possible before I decide where to commit my time and energy. C. Step…
During my time in high school, I have realized what I am truly passionate about. When I’m not at school or working at Chick-fil-A, my time is almost entirely devoted to band. I am also always looking for ways to create a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly space. Environmental awareness and music make me the happiest in my life. I’ve spent roughly 1,300 hours taking part in my high school marching band program. I’ve also spent many hours participating in concert band. The William…
It was the first padded practice my junior year, the sun was blazing angrily and the Earth was its punching bag. This was my first practice back from a torn shoulder. This injury happened because my refusal to listen to my physician. I had previously injured my shoulder, but my fear of letting my coaches down and looking weak in front of my teammates led me to play through this injury. This erroneous decision worsened my torn labrum; to the point that I had to lose five months of my junior year…
