Sociologists have tried to understand why people do what they do and one theory to understand people’s thought process is the Social Learning Theory. Albert Bandura created the Social Learning Theory and the theory says “ people learn from one another, through observation, imitation, and modeling”(Bandura 1971). For the first time since the 2008-09 school year, EC is preparing for a freshman basketball team. After signups took place, Athletic Director and Boys Varsity Coach Bill Schoener noticed there was enough people to support three teams. The large senior class will be able to fill up the majority of the varsity roster, allowing underclassman to be on junior varsity, and the 12 freshman to form a freshman team. Because there are three teams, there will be a decant amount of swing players throughout the program.…

In lieu of letting the new players struggle with learning technical skills, I and a few other veteran team members taught the new players the fundamentals of soccer. Through weeks of training and weekend practices we all began to see growth in our new team. From this moment I knew my hard work was beginning to pay off. We endured many discouraging losses from the first few games; which turned a lot of heads in my direction. But we slowly bonded as a team and learned how to play together which showed on the scoreboard.…

I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

Questions arise all the time about how some kids do better at standardized testing, homework assignments, or even classwork than other students. Some people think that the answer lies in a textbook buried in the deepest and darkest corners of the world, or a school library, however, this idea would be wrong. The answer lies in a psychological thought process that allows people to see that the answer is in the student’s motivation itself. Although many try to use positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement to train students to study or learn a piece of information, the drive has to come from the student’s own intrinsic motivational drives. In other words, the student has to want to do it instead of being made to do it.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Then the third reason why going by birth year rather than graduation year is not beneficial for youth soccer because of the emotional toll it has on being with kids that are a year older or younger. It’s a social divide between grades and friends, for example my little sister was born in 2002, and some of the players on her team birth year is 2001. She has to play with the year younger team and not with her friends that are in the same grade as her. It’s emotionally hard when you have been playing with your close friends for years on the same team, and then have to play with the year younger class because you birth years is a year “younger” than your friends. I was born in 1999 and should be playing with some sophomores, when tryouts came…
