mark the transition from childhood to adulthood. In my personal experience, a tough decision in dance would mark the aforementioned statement to be true. I began dancing at the age of ten, and shortly after, dance became my life. I would dance day and night, all throughout the year. Along the way, I learned many lessons. In one instance, I needed to decide over my health and safety or the success of my dance team. At the time, I was conflicted over this incident; however, I am now very grateful…
When I was four-year-olds, I was placed into dance classes at the Dance Unlimited Studio in Paradis, Louisiana. I meet most of my phenomenal friends in dance class; especially my great friend Maddie. Maddie was two grades above me, so when I was an eighth-grader, she was a sophomore at my current high school. One day during dance class, she hurled her whole body upon me for a hug and squealed in excitement. "Guess what!?" she exclaimed. I replied with a distorted face, and my mouth ajar. "Guard…
“Freeing Forgiveness” was a dance that Joy Scott choreographed. During Joy Scott’s practice we struggled with quite a few things, such as, changing music, choreography, and what the dance was about. Our rehearsals were on Thursdays at 5:00pm and I was able to attend all practices that we had. During our first rehearsal, we started out using music that Joy found that was very simple and elegant. She had the idea of Blade Boulware playing the piano during the first minute of our dance and then…
school just gave me the chills since I knew it was going to be a much bigger school with around a thousand students, that I barely knew. I’ve always been told that in high school, I should join many clubs and get involved in school. I loved the idea of joining many things my freshman year…
dancer moves up to the front of the stage while a new dancer joins them in the back. So far I had restricted myself to just dancing on stage. Angel and Sky keep telling me that the real money is in private dances. They also told me about the champagne room and said this was ultimately where I wanted to be. A customer can rent out the space…
dancing. Nataraja is considered to be the ultimate depiction of the dance, Nataraja meaning “Lord of the Dance”. Here we see Shiva with his left leg on top of his right, and his hands holding fire and a drum. His other set of appendages are in a very distinct form. Fire encircles him in a ring while he stands on a man. This is commonly attributed to overcoming darkness/negativity and ignorance. This beautiful illustration of Shiva’s dance is one of the earliest examples of theatrical arts…

Since Maya is the eldest, she has a lot of responsibilities. One of those…
During my grade 12 year of dance I have learned many new skills in both hip hop and ballet that I was able to apply in my final performance. For example, during the dance show we applied slow movements to the hip hop dance. I applied this to my final performance because it taught me that even if my movements are slow and look very graceful that they can still have more energy. This allows me to project the emotion better to the class and in turn help me tell the story of the dance better. Also,…
for 9 years & my 5-year-old is in her 2nd year of Irish dance. I started dancing again with her this past fall. We'll be walking in Milwaukee's St. Patrick's Day Parade & dancing around Milwaukee for the holiday. I earned my BA in Dance from UWM in 2010. Types of dance I did- Irish, West African, jazz, ballet, Horton Modern, & Musical Theatre. An injury caused me to stop dancing. Then my husband (married since 07') & I had a child, so I'm just getting back into it. But I still consider myself…
The three experiences I am evaluating are: a past position I held on my dance team, a previous job I held as a secretary, and a volunteer position I held in a church. I have been dancing the majority of my life and held a senior lieutenant ranking on my dance team. Dance helped me develop an understanding of determination, hard work, and team work. I started the dance team simply as a line member and worked my way up, until I reached a lieutenant ranking. I remember hundreds of early mornings…
