The three experiences I am evaluating are: a past position I held on my dance team, a previous job I held as a secretary, and a volunteer position I held in a church.

I have been dancing the majority of my life and held a senior lieutenant ranking on my dance team. Dance helped me develop an understanding of determination, hard work, and team work. I started the dance team simply as a line member and worked my way up, until I reached a lieutenant ranking. I remember hundreds of early mornings and long nights of practices- all encouraging me to set my goals high and chase them. Making the position as a lieutenant proved to me that determination and hard work can get you anywhere. As a lieutenant, I was expected to lead the team, choreograph,

When I first started working in the political headquarters as a secretary, I was completely new to the environment. This job did not provide very much guidance over what I would be doing, or how I would accomplish those things. By being thrown into the job, without being instructed, I was able to gain the skills of adaptability and independency. I quickly adapted to the environment and learned that I just had to figure things out for myself. Although I was intimidated at first, this job is valuable to me because it forced me to be uncomfortable. I believe that in situations where people are made uncomfortable, they normally grow the most- this was the case for me. I ended up completing assignments quicker than expected and was recognized for my accomplishments; My boss let me train and guide the new employees. I am confident I will be able to use what I learned through this experience as I approach my

As part of an old high school tradition, hundreds of students crowded into a dimly lit cafeteria and danced until the air hung heavy and sweat glistened off every square inch of exposed skin. The schools that began the tradition of the modern homecoming dance most likely did not expect it to evolve into what it is today; at some point, we, as students, lost the true purpose of the event and instead became preoccupied with image. Even though I would have liked to think that those things did not matter, I still found myself altering my appearance that Saturday night to try and show off the best version of myself. I was not alone; other females joined me amidst a pile of cosmetic products and styling tools, and we had the pictures to showcase…

I have performed with flag corps for the last three years which were named: Groovy Baby, Muevas Sus Huesos, Seven years. Prior to this, I was not very athletic and had no dance background.…

I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. Arms outstretched, my chubby little 3-year-old feet clad in each of two small plastic food containers, I am caught forever in a grainy photograph sailing across our kitchen floor in the best approximation of a spiral a toddler could make. In ballet, a spiral is an arabesque and I love dancing. (My mother said I tap danced the last trimester before I was born.) It’s true that I can’t get from one room to another without dancing, but when I announced to my parents that I wanted to figure skate, they wondered how a 3-year-old could know that she wanted anything so surely. They took some convincing and only after I’d ruined all the food storage containers, did they decide that I was serious.…
