During the past 3 years at Rick Hansen I feel as though I have grown tremendously as a dancer and a performer. During my grade 12 year of dance I have learned many new skills in both hip hop and ballet that I was able to apply in my final performance. For example, during the dance show we applied slow movements to the hip hop dance. I applied this to my final performance because it taught me that even if my movements are slow and look very graceful that they can still have more energy. This allows me to project the emotion better to the class and in turn help me tell the story of the dance better. Also, when performing at the dance show I also had to act as a role model for the younger students. I found this helpful because it gave me more …show more content…
Also, I was always ready with my music everyday. This helped reach my goal of 30 seconds of choreography a day. In addition to that I also feel that by taking dance it has helped me not only as a performer but also a student. For example, I grade ten I was very shy and should not present in front of anyone. I always had self doubt about other or not I was good enough and by having dance in my life it has built my self confidence. For example, when I present in from of my class or talk to people I don't think about what they are going to say I feel confident when I speak to others. Also, one of the many skills that I have leaned in dance is attention to certain details. For example, in hip hop and fosse each move has a different feeling and energy and as a dance you have to hit those movements to make the dance look energetic and different. This helped me in school because now I make sure that everything that I do I do it to the best of my ability and make sure every detail is …show more content…
This was the most enjoyable part of dance because it was a way of meeting others students outside of the class room that enjoyed dance just as much as I do. I was also able to see different variety of dance. For example, during the show this year there was a group that did an African dance. This gave me a new perspective of dance abacus the movements looked very mellow but still energetic. It shows me that dance does not solely have to be of one energy level. Lastly, as a dancer I feel as though I have pushed my self and channelled my ability to dance. For instance, for the last summative I used an instrumental piece. This used me outside of my comfort zone because I'm used to choreographing to the lyrics of the song. This was beneficial for me because in made more reflect on the message of my dance more and helped me create movements that signified the message more clearly. Overall my experience in dance for my years in Rick Hansen have given me skills that will help me for the rest of my life, from confidence to attention to detail. In conclusion demonstrating that dance is not just a course for the arts but a class that gave me skills for the future

Mainly because I never had the opportunity to watch a dance concert, it was a great experience. Before the concert begun, I was super thrilled and excited to watch it. As I’m watching each work, I think to myself and say “Wow these are amazing dancers, I wonder if they major in dancing too. They’re just so good!” Coming to conclusion, I found out I was completely wrong.…

Some people take dancing more seriously than others. There’s people that dance for fun at parties, there’s people that like dancing a lot so they join a dance team, and there is people that love dancing so much that they even want to major in it. Also, there’s people that are born to dance; they don’t have to try that hard to be about to perform a dance move, and there’s people that have to practice a lot to be able to do a dance move. Well, I am in the middle. I like dancing a lot that I’ve joined dance teams, and I dance when ever I am bored, but no, I am not going to major in dancing.…

This exposure to so many new aspects of theatre was an interesting and positive experience as I got to work with almost every department. This consequently provided me with many new learning experiences and new issues which I had not tackled previously.…

The fastest way for a performer’s career to end is with an unexpected injury. My freshman year I suffered patella luxation, more commonly known as the dislocation of the kneecap. I was in a full leg brace for a month and a half, then participated in extensive physical therapy over my summer break until I could finally return to dance for my sophomore year at Booker T. Washington. The time I spent unable to dance led me to explore other pathways associated with the arts. Because I was not able to participate in my technique classes I was told to take extensive notes over corrections and the class as a whole; I began to draw connections from the first combination to the last.…

Not knowing anyone gave the dance a different sense of mystery, leaving me to question what the meaning behind the creation of the dance is compared to my personal interpretation. The dances on campus also gave a sense of mystery, but is was not as strong due to knowing people performing and their personalities and how that affects their dancing. Leaning from outside performances also gave me better knowledge of how to observe. Watching outside movements and see how much more advanced professionals are, but how they still incorporate the most basic movements that we have learned in class. Seeing professional movements made me look at our own class and observe how well we can compare to the professionals for being…

Massey School of Dance is not only a competitive dance studio but a family where I spent 15 years of my life learning life lessons and amazing choreography. I started dancing at Massey when I was three years old and I loved every second of it. When I was younger I played soccer, was on a gymnastics team, played softball, and danced, when I reached the age of 10 I quit everything but dance. At the young age of 8 I was asked to be on our competition team because my dance techniques were high enough to compete with the team.…

High School is a time when you venture out and try new things you probably never considered before. A catalyst in my life was joining dance team at the end of freshman year. When I was younger I did dancing for different places, but in fifth grade I stopped dancing. Honestly, I felt like I was not really doing anything productive since I didn’t have extracurricular activities. Dance was a large part of my life since I always seemed to find my way back to it.…

Before coming to Brenau University, I had a tendency to dance plainly and even stiffly at times; now I feel like my dancing has a bit more personality to it. Over this semester, I have really been encouraged to be more expressive with my arms and head in ballet class, helping to enhance the amount of performance quality in my dancing. I think that having roles other than corps has especially helped with this. I felt that performing as Snow White allowed me to explore performing more of a character role, something that helped to push me to step out of my comfort zone. Still, like these other areas of evaluation, there can always be more.…

Only in the arts does one obtain the ability to both find themselves and loose themselves simultaneously. For the performer, energising, exhilarating, a chance to become someone or something else, to become your alter ego, to charm, dazzle and delight audiences, and for the spectator, an intriguing and entertaining experience of the demonstration of human life, their wildest dreams or scariest nightmares Theatre and performing arts have always been a huge part of my life since a very young age, and with both a mother and father as dance teachers, there was never any doubt that this would be the area I would grow to love and choose to pursue at university. My parents have always been a huge inspiration to me, and as I grew up I realised I had inherited a natural talent for performing arts from them, and unsurprisingly, for dance in particular. I regularly attend dance classes, completing my IDTA medals in freestyle, and progressing with the same aim of completion in both Ballroom and Latin.…

Therefore, my performance reflected the progress made along the semester. As I have mentioned before, this was my first experience with ballet, and as a result I can say that I was able to learn and gain new respect for the ones that dedicate their lives to the performance, and to appreciate ballet performance from a different point of view. Before taking this introductory course, I was not aware of the effort and sacrifice that means to be a dancer and through every practice I noticed how hard it is to be good at ballet. Also, as I mentioned at the beginning of the semester, I am a nursing major and ballet was not a class I was expecting to take during my college life. However, I tried my best to learn the sequences and learn as much as I could and to not give up.…
