Reflection Essay 'Freeing Forgiveness'

As we auditioned for the Student Choreography Showcase, I was very nervous and anxious because it was something that really meant a lot to me and something that I wanted to share with all my classmates. During auditions, I surprised myself a lot because I picked up on choreography faster than I thought. I felt really confident in what I was performing for each choreographer. I had a couple of the choreographers call me back out to see my performance for a second time. The second time performing, I only performed it better than the first time. As the audition came to an end, I was very hopeful that I would make it into a piece. Needless to say, I was much honored to see my name under five different choreographers. I had a hard time choosing …show more content…
I went back and forth with different pieces because I didn’t want to let any of the choreographers down. I came to a conclusion and picked Joy Scott’s piece, Cierra Stinson’s piece, and Jayden McCree’s piece. I chose these three pieces, because I knew each one of these choreographers danced differently and I wanted to challenge myself with different styles of their choreography. “Freeing Forgiveness” was a dance that Joy Scott choreographed. During Joy Scott’s practice we struggled with quite a few things, such as, changing music, choreography, and what the dance was about. Our rehearsals were on Thursdays at 5:00pm and I was able to attend all practices that we had. During our first rehearsal, we started out using music that Joy found that was very simple and elegant. She had the idea of Blade Boulware playing the piano during the first minute of our dance and then having a music fade in. Coming into our first showing for the professors, it was very nerve racking for a few of the performers because it was the first time dancing in a showing. We went into the showing with our head held high and performed like we always did in rehearsals. After our first showing, Joy learned that she needed to listen to Blade’s composition work to use for our whole …show more content…
During Cierra’s rehearsal there was much that we struggled with other than losing a dancer at the beginning and having to change music. Miranda Knorr was a cast member in Cierra’s that was injured and unfortunately had to pull herself out. Thankfully Cierra stepped in as a member of her piece. This dance was made up of our phrase that represented was were going through in life. Based off that, we picked one movement that we used throughout the whole piece and then Cierra added two other phrase sections. Throughout each of her rehearsals, we worked extremely hard at three practices to get it done, then the rest of the time we left it open so that we could use it to fix minor issues and clean. As we went into the first showing, we didn’t have much to show because we started choreography late. After first showings, we finished the dance and was definitely ready for second showings. We were officially in the show and started changing some things based on what the professors wanted from us. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make the dance look totally different. Getting closer to the show, I felt more confident about this dance than any other dance that I was in. On show night, I got the one correction from the professors, and that was actually run instead of just running. Make it look believable. As I fixed this correction, I made sure that it was fixed throughout the rest of the weekend. As

The next day I arrived to class and everyone gave me a round of applause when I walked into the room. The credit and acknowledgment from my peers made me feel good, for it let me know that they really liked it. Hearing how they were both moved and inspired by my play made me feel as though my writing had a purpose. I felt that maybe I should not be afraid of what others think because they just might like it.…

My piece is called “Mixed Emotions”,and it is a story that is about how a mother ,which is me ,has been diagnosed with cancer her three kids does not have strong relationships between each other, which is going to play a big role throughout the dance. This piece was influenced by the movie The Madea Big Happy Family. This dance is representing the part when the mother finally told her children that she has cancer, and it was a kind of struggle to get them all on the same page because they are not the typically children who can be in a room and communicate about anything. That will play a big part too because the mother is trying to get them to come together before her time is up. Then when she tells them they all start showing their emotions in their different ways based off…

Interaction My initial response to the concept of forgiveness therapy for abuse survivors was that it seemed counter-intuitive, as it can be perceived to excuse the abusive behavior and invalidate the suffering of the victim. However, this impression fails to acknowledge the therapeutic definition of forgiveness as used in therapy, a release of resentment (Reed & Enright, 2006). Upon review of this definition of forgiveness therapy, I concluded that it was in line with other therapeutic ideals that encourage release of negative thought patterns and encourage the construction of positive thought patterns and behaviors.…

Is it possible to forgive someone who has done you wrong in the past? Is forgiveness a way to make yourself feel better? I believe to forgive is a way to set yourself free, to admit that it does no good to hate. I think forgiveness is a characteristic of our humankind. I think that a lot of us are raised up to believe that if we don’t forgive, whatever it is troubling, angering, make our blood boil or shaming us, is going to last longer if we don’t forgive, whether it is ourselves or whether it is others we are forgiving.…

This was a very effective way to set out the performance because it made the experience better for the audience watching. However when looking at the elements of dance there were a few blunders here and there such as timing during duets, trios and pieces which involved almost the whole cast. It was not only that the dancers were not in time but certain factors such as having different speeds during a turn affected the timing…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
