In chapter 11 “analyzing and synthesizing arguments” provides insight on how to analyze and synthesize an argument. When we analyze we ask questions like what’s the issues, who’s the audience, and most importantly what positon you stand in an argument. Once, that is finished then you would start to wrap everything with the counterargument. Now, you would look and decide if there is enough motivating factors such as interest, values, concerns, and priorities. To synthesize an argument you would…
journalist and recipient of a Santa Fe Institute Journalism Fellowship in Complexity Science- discusses the consequences resulting from the recent lack of peer-review, the portrayal of the scientific community due to these effects, and the true nature of research. According to Aschwanden (2015), one of the prominent contributors to the public’s lack of confidence in science is statistical manipulation and biases. This relates to O’Neil’s Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases…
well known, has been comprehensively addressed in literature, and has more established solutions. The second, academic ghostwriting, has received less attention and has not yet been systematically addressed. In fact the there are very few published research papers on the practice, and those that do exist many date from the past decade. On the face of it the two problems appear very similar, as both involve issues with the attribution of the work of others, but in practice they are quite…
The scientific method is a method used by sociologists to deliver sound sociological research with the use of empirical evidence(Little, W. et al.,2014)The three first steps of the scientific method will be used to write about ethnic diversity in college. The discussion on my hypothesis on ethnic diversity in college will be using the theories of structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism and social construction. Do colleges which state ethnic diversity in their policies really practice…
Research is a process of inquiry. In research study sampling theory is necessary, because it is a section of statistics, which included population, target population, sampling eligibility criteria, methods, plan, assessable population, elements, representatives. The sampling theory is not complete with selection of observation of population. That will start with the random sample, the use of probability theory with population limitations Then evaluate the data from the random sample and develop…

In the reading “Finding Out How the Social World Works” by Michael Schwalbe, he discusses the importance of being sociologically mindful, a concept by which an individual is aware that everyone may have a different perspective on life and acknowledging it. The author also talks about being a mindful skeptic, by which he means we must always learn to question information presented to us and not always believe everything we hear to be true, have an open mind to learn new information. He says,…
One word that I learned from this class, was context. Context is a set of conditions or facts that surround a particular event or situation. It also includes when the work of art was made, where it was made, how it was made, and for what purpose was it made for. When looking at an art work the context of it is looked at very carefully to determine the arts excellence. You can use this word when you are examining a sculpture or a painting. So for example you are looking at the David sculpture…
During previous centuries, using Reductionism pattern has been the dominant pattern on sense recognition (seventh sense; p kivi 2008). It was due to the nature of sciences which were in the process of recognizing the notion of sense and human emotion sets. What we need in these sciences is (1) dividing each sense into some fundamental elements, (2) discussing and describing the unique and specific features of each fundamental element in specific science scopes and (3) extracting interactions and…
Both books, “Create Dangerously” by Edwidge Danticat and “The Atlas of Global Inequalities” by Ben Crow and Suresh K. Lodha, are very different books, but also both very big eye openers. Both of these interesting books despite their differences could complement each other to get similar information across in different ways. “Create Dangerously” by Danticat was obviously far more personal. For me its way more interesting and impactful when I hear/read real stories of people. So reading these…
