Example Of Context Analysis

One word that I learned from this class, was context. Context is a set of conditions or facts that surround a particular event or situation. It also includes when the work of art was made, where it was made, how it was made, and for what purpose was it made for. When looking at an art work the context of it is looked at very carefully to determine the arts excellence. You can use this word when you are examining a sculpture or a painting. So for example you are looking at the David sculpture which was made in 1504, made by the Italian artist Michelangelo, you consider its context. You observe the year he made it, what he made it out of, what was the time period like back then. Because the sculpture is so old, there are many factors to consider. This can help you determine and classify the art work. If you do not take the context into consideration then you can have a whole other view on the art piece. You might not appreciate is as much, but knowing the art works context helps you better knowledge yourself about the piece and give you a better understanding of why it is done the way it is done. …show more content…
But after I learned this word and I took in consideration the context of the art work like the time, culture, materials used, and the purpose of it, I gained a lot of respect for the ancient art. I thought that it is very important for someone to educate themselves of the art work and the artist before being a critic about it, and that is why knowing the context of the art comes in very handy. I really like this word because by just understanding one word the viewer will begin to fill themselves up with the meaning of the art work the artist
