It was day 9 of the 12-day cruise. Sitting with my family at the dinner table, I interrupted the conversation and asked if I could be excused so I could go see some friends that I had met on our cruise. I got the go ahead and the time I had to be back in the cabin that night. Normally my curfew is 12am, but that night in particular I thought I could stretch it a bit because we had no obligations for the next morning. I went back to the room, changed, grabbed my phone then went out. The usual meeting spot was the card room, specifically on deck 10 aft. Fortunately, I had met up with everyone right on time. After having causal awkward conversation for the past few hours, we all thought it was time to relocate and do something more entertaining. We were all aimlessly walking around until we stumbled into this offset room that was set up as a small conference room. As time progressed, the group of was significantly smaller. I figured this was probably the right time to check in with my parents. I picked up the nearest phone and checked the time; it read 12:37AM. I dialed my cabin number and twirled the phone cord. The phone kept ringing and ringing “You’ve gotta be kidding me, no answer” I said to myself. I hung the phone back on the wall and sat back down in the circle with my friends. At this time of night I figured my dad was just sitting at the casino getting drunk off Jack and Coke while my mom played the penny slots. One of the kids I was sitting with spotted a huge…

Technology serves a very strong purpose in the world. I say cellular devices have more of an affect with this generation. I can’t walk down the street without seeing someone’s face planted into a screen of any kind. I feel separated from the world even though it’s right at my fingertips. Crazy how something so small can hold so much “knowledge”. Wrap your mind around this, one person sends or receives, on average, 110 text message a day. The average person sends 120 emails in one day. Ridiculous…

Piper stared sadly at the mirror. Her best friend was in love, her other best friend had a steady job, and her? She was broke, alone, and depressed. The kaleidoscope eyed girl who sat before her had dark circles under her eyes, choppy brown hair with beads, feathers, and braids, and chapped lips. Pathetic. It has been two weeks since she figured out Nico's secret. Ever since, the young Italian has been spending more time alone. And whenever she did get out, she was always so rude. Em got a…

I was in my bedroom shuffling through folders and notebooks, preparing for the next day of school. The phone in the living room rang: once, twice, three times, peregrinating to voicemail, as I leaped out of my chair to answer it. I visually examined the caller ID, it was a call with a 961 area code, emanating from my hometown of Lebanon. I sprinted to my father with the phone in hand. My father jubilantly greeted my grandmother, “hello mama,” how are you. As she replied to him, I descried my…

The picture that I chose is on the terrible tragedy of death while driving. There are hundred ways that you can die while behind the wheel, but I believe there is one specific way that is easily the worst way; while on the cell phone. There are many deaths that cannot be controlled while behind the wheel, but if your death is due to lack of attention to the road that is easily the worst way of death. This picture shows that talking on the phone while driving causes of your own death. This…

Ring ring, ring ring. The phone rings in Jaxson Browler home office. He is exhausted but answers anyway. “Hello?” Jaxson answers. “Hi there,” it’s his firm partner, “I have a job for you.” “What now Thomas?” replied Jaxson Jaxson starts to doze off as Thomas begins to describe the job, but wakes up as soon as he hears about the location of the job. “What?” Jaxson responds excitedly. “Thats right,” Thomas sounds more excited than Jaxson, “And you get to ride a cruise to get there!” “Really, I’ve…

It’s late at night; I received a phone call saying it was blocked. I answered the phone call, noticing that I'm home alone, after a long nap. I said “This dude is a loser always prank calling random people.” The person with a deep voice said “he was in front of my house” and it was a rainy day. He was a tall man with an object in his hand looking like a knife, so I started panicking. I called my brother but he was at the movies with his friends. The man started knocking on the door, but when I…

“Do I have to speak in front of everyone?” he asked. The buzz from my phone forced open my heavy eyelids. My body struggled for warmth as the frigid winter air cooled my bed. The message was from my friend of many years. He was anxiously preparing for our Class Council meeting which would be in two hours. “You can do this,” I managed to type back, despite blurry vision and extreme exhaustion. “I believe in you and what you have done. Be confident. They are going to love you.” A few weeks…

Growing up I was always taught by my parents, that giving someone a helping hand is a great to do. It should be something everyone should learn to do because when we least expect it, our loved ones might need a helping hand. Since we help does around you when they needed help, someone will give us a helping hand when we need it. So I use that way of thinking at all times and at all places. I always try to help as many people as I can and most times I offer the help without being asked. The…
