It was one number I had never deleted out of my phone, mostly because I had waited for years for Stormy to call.
Her mom answered on the second ring, “Drew?”
“Mrs. Waters.” I answered.
“I assume you’re calling about Stormy?”
“Yes ma’am. We know that Cole has her.”
“Yes…he does.” She replied, cooly.
“You already knew that?” I asked in confusion.
She laughed a psychotic laugh, “Of course we know, he’s good for her.”
Rhett stared at the phone, a mixture of disgust, anger, and shock across his face.
“Where are they?” I growled.
“Some place quiet, secluded, some place they can start their lives over and be happy together.”
The amount of anger coursing through my veins was lethal, “How’d you get him out of prison and get them to cover for

You have a great evening, Drew.”
She hung up before I could ask any more questions.
A few short minutes later my cell phone rang, detective Jamison was calling.
“We are about three minutes from your house. I think you need to tell us about that phone call.”
When they arrived and came inside, we all sat at the large kitchen island and I told them about the history between Stormy and her parents.
Detective Jamison shook his head, “They sound like some vial human beings. We’ll go back to the office and do some more digging. Don’t forget your phone is tapped, if he calls…”
“I know, I know, keep my cool and keep him on the line for as long as possible.”

Dad told us to sit down, “My attorney called today with some—news

The detective instructed me to mute my phone, so I did. Jennifer sighed and continued talking; about what I have no idea because I could only focus on what was about to happen.
“If you have a clear view, fire in three.two.one.” Another whisper filled the silence.
The window shattered and Cole dropped to the floor, “Suspect one, impact to the chest.” One of the guys said.
Jennifer screamed, “NO! Cole! Get up, get up, PLEASE! DREW THEY JUST SHOT HIM!”
I looked at the officer he nodded and pressed the mute button, “I’m sorry, Jennifer.” I tried to sound convincing, but deep inside I was smiling.
“Help him, somebody help him! He’s still breathing,” she sobbed, “Stay with me, Cole. You fucking bitch—this is all your fault!” she screamed, through sobs. “I’m going to fucking kill you!”
“NO!” I yelled.
“Get up, you bitch!”
The next few minutes felt like an eternity. I could hear Jennifer screaming and slapping Stormy. “Cole, what do I do?” she cried. Then the sound of a gun being caulked made time stand still, then the sound of a gun blast and my heart stopped
