Feeling like an Outsider The 3 day basketball tryouts have begun and I see that few of my friends have showed up. The few that did were thinking about quitting. “For the love of the game,” I tell them, “keep going until the end.” But every day I see more and more dropping like flies. Many of them don’t want to feel the soreness and sweat dripping down your back. Others just felt like they sucked at basketball and weren’t good enough. As the results come in I am faced with a challenge. I find myself alone on the basketball team. The idea of what my friends did popped into my mind. The thought of my friends abandoning the tryouts and those who didn’t make the cut was awful. The fear of having no partner in drills or other activities in practice make it even worse. As basketball practice soon appeared on my schedule, I started to get butterflies. I struggle to want to go to practice in the summer, but with the dad I have I can’t miss one. When I go to the practice, I don’t only see that none of my friends are there, but that the huge 9th grade team practices with us. As I get out on the court, I feel the embarrassment of how my abilities are very limited compared to them. The red hot blood rushes to my face. As practice goes on I am silent when everyone is talking. But I see a potential someone that I may be able to talk to. They might be that someone that will be a partner in practice and talk with me at the cool water fountain. The summer practices were the worst. the gym…

The two observed practice sessions were successful and effective in general; however, there were some points that needed to be improved. In addition, each practice had some considerable strengths and weaknesses, which were sometimes common in both practices. In order to evaluate and compare the practices in terms of comprehensiveness and efficiency, their similarities and differences should be assessed. Although the two practices were different in many aspects, they had some common points. For…

Is Reality Affected By the Passing of Time? Technology has come a long way in the past decade. It has helped humanity evolve faster than ever. However, not everything about technology is great. Technology has affected the way that humans perceive reality now. It gives people the wrong idea of how the real world works by creating a world that people can easily adjust to. In this essay, I argue that the virtual world lowers your expectations of the real world, that using technology connects and…

Everyone always says, “Relax, let your hair down.” However, one person on my team never seems to take a break. Kenna is a blonde, feisty, fireball... a controlling whirlwind. She can be a little mean and uptight sometimes. On top of that, she is always trying to impress people and not friends. If I could give advice to anyone, it would be Kenna about her controlling attitude. Kenna can be a very endearing person, but sometimes she can be extremely bossy. On my team we have two team captains,…

I believe that hard work pays off, almost every time. Last winter, I joined my local select basketball team, Ballard select. I didn’t have to try out, the coach just saw me play and asked me to join the team. After a few months of playing with Ballard, I became very committed and grew very close to my teammates. Finally spring came, and so did try outs. My coach Taylor, and the founder of Ballard Select, Sara, had told us only eight of the twelve girls on the team were going to make the team…

Everyday I see people wanting to stand up for something, but don’t do it. People get so scared because they don’t want someone to judge them or lose someone they care about. I had stood up for my sister Hannah when “rumors” were going around about her. I had lost friends because of it and I would not change that. Hannah is my baby sister and no friend or person is more important than her. I wasn’t going to let people say things about her or call her some inappropriate things. I had stood…

Mr. Richard, I am Violeta Motta, we talked briefly around 1pm today regarding the incident that happened today with Mercedes. I entered the cafeteria at 1pm like always, I wanted to buy turkey slices. When I started to grab my first piece of turkey with the tong that is set out to use, Mercedes told me in an angry manner, “Don't grab the turkey slices, (when I pick out turkey slices, I usually pick the smallest and thinnest piece, Mercedes doesn't like this), you don't have to make the…

As the season gets closer to summer the nights start to get warmer, and as the nights get warmer the kids play longer. Picking up my phone I texted my friend Elli to see if she could get anyone to play night games at the Mapleton City Park. Earlier that day at school we had began planning on having night games, and the park was a central place to have them. Even with both of us trying we couldn’t get anyone who could come play. Only one person said that they would be there, who just…
