Mosaic of Creaks on the plains shows the scarcity of moisture even in soil. Rising temperature in summer makes this habitat even harsh for life to survive. This is the Grasslands of Banni, one of the Asia’s largest and dynamic grassland ecosystems in India. Despite of its harsh climatic conditions this vast land being shared by different types of life forms that inhabits above and beneath the surface. High temperature, dry conditions and sand storms always keep challenges to life here but nothing least forever in this universe. As the time passes monsoon comes and alters the entire picture of Banni. Intense rain of monsoon put a shallow blanket of water across the landscape once in a year that gives relief to its inhabitants. Due to high water holding capacity of the clay, huge proportion of landscape of hundreds of miles gets waterlogged once. Heavy rain, forces the people of Banni to migrate towards uplifted areas with their cattle as their settlements get filled with water. Maldharies of Banni are expertise to live here.
