Psychology began as a study of the soul. Plato believed the soul was an individual’s belief they are distinct from but also connected to their physical and social environments. Aristotle believed the soul was a set of psychological powers or attributes. In fact, Garcia-Valdecasas (2005) noted that Aristotle used the term ‘mind’ to collectively refer to these attributes. From that, psychology evolved into a science of the self. James (1890) viewed the self as a fundamental concept in the ‘science…
I started watching true crime documentaries with my mother when I was in elementary school. After each episode, I was left wondering if there was something different about the brains of the people that commit crimes. I researched the topic and found mixed theories about the typical mind of a criminal. I found much diversity in criminal’s mental backgrounds; some were psychopaths, some were sociopaths, and some were no different from average. I continued to be fascinated with the human mind and…
fascination with Autism Spectrum Disorder stemmed mainly from my family’s interest in it. My mother and both of her parents worked in educational psychology and regaled me with stories and challenges of their careers all my life. Once I was old enough to borrow books from my mom, I was drawn to her extensive collection of books on educational psychology and ASD, specifically. As I grew up I realized that a career working with individuals with ASD was what I wanted with my future. Once my…
I have always been interested in Physical Therapy ever since I had surgery on my elbow and had to go through it. I just like the fact that I will be helping get someone back to the way they use to be before their surgery or possibly even better. I know I had a much better range of motion in my elbow after Physical Therapy than I did prior to my surgery. I enjoy interacting with patients and getting to know them on a personal level. I feel like this is a big part of being a Physical Therapist.…

I have completed 4 weeks of works experience at Queens Road Academy, Barnsley. Throughout works experience I was rewarded greatly and learnt many valuable…
Ivan Pavlov is portrayed as a principled person who does what he has passion. At his young age, he was introduced to religion school and later a theological seminar to follow the steps of his father who was a village priest (Fields, 2006). However, since this was not part of his passion, at 21 years, he abandoned religious studies following the inspiration of D. I. Pisarev an eminent Russian literary critic and I. M. Sechenov who was the father of Russian physiology (Todes, 2000). He then…

Several factors in the industrial organizational psychology field, along with the book are very well described in realistic situations and events that give you a better understanding of the terms and ideas in industrial psychology. enough, you will remember it”. I love lecture classes where the teacher talks, and/or has a PowerPoint, and I can just listen and take notes. If the information is important, I usual remember it, or if it is interesting. Two summers ago, I took a psychology course and the only information that I retained from this class was about an experiment performed, the Milgram experiment. The experiment consisted of Person A having to shock Person B because Person C said so. The purpose of the study was to…
the non-Jewish neighborhood. It was a little like being the first Negro enrolled in an all-white school. I was isolated and unhappy. I grew up in libraries and among books, without friends" (Hall, 1968,…
