My company works in accounts receivable, and if they can 't run reports, create and view documents or research accounts online, we lose a ton of money in a very short time. The pressure was definitely on now... The entire IT department formed an impromptu huddle. Where do we start? What were recently reported issues? Had we been it with a virus? What has caused the entire system to fail? We decided to begin with a post-mortem debug. An analysis of the core dump of the crashed process was obtained automatically by the system, as this was a fatal error in the program. This core dump allowed us to debug the OS. After careful analysis, we found no virus, no worm, no bots, and the usual number of clients on the server. With further inspection, we found that the database was corrupted due to a scheduled update that took place this morning that was filled with erroneous data. This caused an overload of all systems. We had to get things back to their previous state that they were in before that update. A backup operation was used to restore the database to the specific time before the crash.
