Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in C Sharp Minor consists of three parts with five movements. The first movement “Trauermarsch” is a funeral march, followed by “Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz,” “Scherzo,” “Adagietto,” and “Rondo-Finale.” The tempo markings and style of the composition seem to point toward the various stages of grief. The first movement begins with a lone trumpet solo and is followed by slow, solemn support from the orchestra.
