WARS-like tech remained nothing but that: hopes and dreams. However, recently, things have begun to change—reality has started to catch up with fantasy. And as technology advances, we get closer and closer to the imagined world of STAR WARS. One aspect of the STAR WARS universe in particular which is coming to fruition in the real world is robot technology. There are robots in almost every field of human endeavor now: manufacturing, food service, the military, medicine, personal convenience, entertainment, and more. And many robots today are beginning to resemble—physically and capability-wise—robots from the STAR WARS universe. The fields which I found most promising for robots are the military, medicine and in human assistance (such as C-3PO and R2-D2). In this paper, I will compare robots in these three fields in STAR WARS to those in the real world. First, I will look at military robots in STAR WARS. Though there are many examples of robots used in battle throughout the STAR WARS trilogy, I am going to focus on battle droids, super battle droids, and droidekas. Battle droids and droidekas made their first appearance in STAR WARS: The Phantom Menace, while super battle droids first appeared in STAR WARS: The Clone Wars.
