    Satirical cartoons are illustrated reports that usually represent current events and personas with a comical slant. ‘Proving That is Easy to Produce Clean Coal’ was a political cartoon by the authors affiliated with Inkcinct. This cartoon was published in The Australian on the 2nd of February 2017. It was used against the Turnbull Government when the Liberal – National Coalition announced that it would be easy to produce clean coal while having a beneficial profit to loss ratio. Turnbull’s clean coal approach was announced without scientific theory and in contrasted to his previous stance on renewable energy. “What a stunning turnaround. The man who lost the leadership by fighting to introduce a carbon price is now railing against renewable energy.” (ABC, 2017). The cartoon was prompted by reports such as this that Turnbull had now shifted focus. Previously Turnbull had been set on renewable energy. The idea of this and also the future can be perceived as white, clean and pure… as is the masked coal in the illustration. The visual details in this cartoon put Turnbull into a position making him look foolish. The idea of clean coal is an oxymoron. The oxymoron being clean and coal. ‘Coal’ is perceived as dirty whereas ‘clean’ is fresh and untouched. The effectiveness this has is to force the viewer into stopping and thinking, whether it is to laugh or to ponder. The following visual effect is the composition of the image.
