Virtual reality is the simulation of a three-dimensional environment with the use of technology that can be interacted with by a person using a medium, such as a headset with a screen inside. As we understand and feel the world through our senses, which mainly includes sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, VR equipment provides us with sensory information, most commonly sight and hearing through monitors and headsets to create a reality in which people can be immersed in. The world can then be manipulated by the person through various means such as moving about and moving objects.
History and Breakthroughs of VR
The first attempts to create VR can be traced back to 1839, where, Charles Wheatstone invented …show more content…
Increased graphics, better hardware and software, faster connections and tracking systems are only the tip of the iceberg.
A major add-on to current VR technology in the future will be the improved headsets. Currently, headsets are thick and most of them requires straps around the head to be worn. Headsets in the future will most likely be less bulky and even wireless as engineering problems are solved and hardware improves and becomes more efficient until headsets will be worn as easily as glasses.
VR will also be more interactive in the future. Currently, VR headsets only cover our sight and hearing, with some vibration from the controllers simulating touch. In the future, however, VR may also provide smell and touch, making one feel and smell breezes in the virtual world for example. This creates a much more immersive world for users to delve into.
Finally, now and even more so in the future, the increasing market of VR will provide more and more jobs for people around the world. Such jobs include engineers to design better headsets, programmers for VR softwares, game designers and even 3D artists. The list goes on. As currently, we are in a declining economy, Thus, the many jobs can help many people and also stimulate the
