FirstBank has become one of the university’s largest corporate supporters, not only through financial contributions, but also employing Texas Tech graduates. Also, each year, the employees engage in a United Way campaign, donating a percentage of their salary to this organization. Weaknesses The bank’s major weaknesses are 1.) Generation gap, 2.) Internal technology, and 3.) Training. The bank’s key weakness is its aging customer base as well as its aging staff. For years, the bank has thrived on customer relationships that were formed 20 years ago. These customers are loyal and integrated into all of the bank’s products and services. They are familiar with all of the bank’s personnel as well as many board of directors. But, as this group passes on, a new generation of customers will need to be marketed too. This will be a problem for FirstBank, especially in Lubbock, were the average employee age is also on the rise. The new generation of customers does not relate to the older generation banker, which causes a gap that could hinder a strong banking relationship and customer loss. The bank will need new and innovative ideas to solicit the younger generations. The bank’s aggressive growth over the past 5-10 years has caused a technological gap.
