A. Why we exist
1. The Harris County Permit Office began issuing development permits in 1973.
2. Permits are issued in accordance with Harris County regulations to ensure that unincorporated areas of Harris County are able to qualify for flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.
3. The residential department is diligently working to minimize the loss of life and property from high water events (i.e. Floods, Tropical Systems, and etc.)
4. The importance of flood plain management
i. During the 20th Century, floods were the number one natural disaster to cause the loss of lives and property, according to the USGS ii. Floodplain management reduces the risk of losing life or property to high water.

A. Assigning project to yourself
1. Sort the project queue in ascending order of submitted date
2. Projects that you are assigning to yourself should be selected from the top of the queue.
3. You may select up to 5 projects at one time if they are on different streets. If many projects are on the same street, you may select all of them at the same time.
4. Project shall not be in your queue more than (1) one business day.
5. If you have a planned absence, make sure your queue is cleared before the date of the planned absence.
