Dietitian College Essay

Dietitians do not just teach patients to watch their diets, but motivate them to make healthier food choices to meet their nutrition needs. After comparing Texas Christian University, Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Austin, based on my criteria of school population, location of the school, and strength of the program, the University of Texas at Austin would be the best choice in helping me pursue my career in dietetics. Although it takes a few years of hard work to become a dietitian, it is a very rewarding and satisfying career due to the fact that you know you are helping others. My goal is to pursue a career in dietetics, but more specifically, as a clinical dietitian. There is a broad range of specific careers …show more content…
This University is located in the heart of Austin, making it a huge pull factor. “Ranked among the biggest and best research universities in the country, UT Austin is home to more than 51,000 students and 3,000 teaching faculty”(University). Not only is UT one of the best research universities in the country, “...the university is one of the top 20 public universities according to the U.S. News and World Report”(University). Due to the University having such high credentials, it is not an easy college to be accepted into. Multiple items are required for admission; the online application, application fee, two essays, your high school transcript, any college transcript, student information form, test scores, major specific items, resume, letter of recommendation, permanent resident card, coursework exemption form, and a residency affidavit (University). The University is a public University, therefore making it less expensive than private, but is still pretty costly. In-state tuition at this University costs “$26,626” which includes all fees (University). Another huge pull factor is their strength in the program. To be able to become a clinical dietitian, pursuing a major in dietetics, which is offered at this University, would be my best bet. In choosing this major, you learn the study of human nutrition in order to manage the nutrition programs

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

Where you attend college is a critical decision, as it completely alters the direction your life will take. I've spent countless hours researching schools over the past few months, and can honestly say that no college has attracted me like Brandeis. Everything about it is perfect for me – the academics, location, size, diversity, and perhaps most of all, the principles of acceptance among the students and faculty. It's a place I could be myself and genuinely fit in. I'm confident that Brandeis will prepare me for life beyond college, both professionally and morally.…

Growing up, I have always wanted to dedicate myself to doing something special in life. I was born in a village in Mexico where public health and education were very limited. I recall, one day, accompanying my mother to a ladies house where there was a sick child. My mother was one of the women in the village who would take care of the sick; she learned everything she knew from my grandmother. When we got there, I saw my mother prepare some medicine and giving it to the ill child.…

Attending college is everybody goal in life especially for the family of the persons who is going, yet nobody tell us what to expect for our first semester. For instance, my family didn’t tell me about how the food would be, the finical aid, and the phone service. Don’t being told of what to except when you’re a first time student is very frustrating, because when you find out about something you’re in shock mood at times when you are told information. Over the course of this class, I have learned quite a bit about what it takes to actually eat healthy and take care of my body. Coming into this class, I thought that I had already figured out most of what I had needed to know. Very quickly, I started to realize that there is a whole lot more to eating healthy than I had thought. Being as health conscious as I am, I immediately found the class very interesting, as it is one of the only classes that I have ever taken that can actually be applied to life on the daily. That is why I found the “My Diet Analysis” project to be extremely interesting.…
