    A former UCLA basketball player, Ed O’Bannon, filed a class-action lawsuit against the NCAA, which stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association, for his likeness being used in a video game without his consent or reimbursement. According to the NCAA amateurism rules college basketball players are not allowed to paid, and thus makes them an amateur. The rules state that players may not accept benefits or payments of any type. College basketball players should be paid in some way due to the fact that they have a good chance of getting injured, they spend a lot of time on their sport, and that so much money is being made of them; however they do get scholarships for the sport. One of the main reasons players feel they should earn a paycheck is injuries. Every year many, many basketball players are being hurt on the court. Some of these injuries can end college careers, like tearing a MCL. Tearing a MCL can set players back a whole season. A study done on NCAA basketball players, shows us that 4.3 people out of every 1,000 athletic exposures or AEs in practice, an exposure is an appearance in a game or practice, gets injured, and 9.9 people out of every 1,000 AEs get hurt in a game.
