As a leader the books that made up the course material for class can be used every day. The book Influencer and Three Signs of a Miserable Job are beneficial to leaders at every level of an organization and I would recommend them to almost everyone. The books are neither manipulative nor forceful in their approach to leadership. The two books were not the only methods of leadership to take and use. John Boyd’s OODA loop, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and the list of Logical Fallacies…
1) At the beginning of the story, Nnamabia is introduced as the troublesome brother who steals from his family, is under many bad influences, and causes great suffering to those closest to him. By introducing him with the story of him robbing his own family and selling his mother’s precious jewelry collection, the audience perceives Nnamabia in a negative light. As the story progresses, this perception of Nnamabia is slowly altered. Instances throughout the story in which the author highlights…
As I was reading The Servant, by James C. Hunter, I felt a sense of accomplishment by being able to recognize some concepts and theories I learned in my Business Management class. Some of these concepts and theories include: servant leadership (pgs.64,65,77,85), power vs. authority (pgs.80, 85), theory X and theory Y (pg.72,73), Maslow´s hierarchy of needs (pg.68-70), and the Hawthorne effect (pgs.103-105). Servant Leadership (pgs.64-65,77,85) When I began reading The Servant, it was evident…
Depression has had a lot of conflict in the medical world and in society. Some believe that when a person has depression they are making it up in their head, and others base their belief on scientific facts and research about depression. The major thesis of this book is deciding whether or not depression is a real medical disease, or is it just something that society wants us to believe. The book overall was easy to follow, and the author used a lot of facts to back up what he was trying to…
The incorporation of culture in novels serves as a powerful tool for authors to craft compelling narratives that resonate with readers on a profound level. Phillip Carol Morgan’s Anompolichi: The Wordmaster and John Phillip Santos’s Places Left Unfinished at the Time of Creation utilize different aspects of Native American and Mexican American culture, respectively, as integral drivers of their stories. Morgan and Santos actively feature their culture via description of the setting, language…
Chapter 11, “The Chemical Elements”, was of great interest to me. “Chemistry is the study is the study of the composition and structure of matter (anything that has mass) and the chemical reactions by which substances are changed into other substances (James T. Shipman 285).” In this summary paper, I will discuss some of the highlights of the chapter. The way I see it, God is the original/first chemist. He took His own creations (the elements in our Periodic Table) to make provisions for…
analogy of Mr. Collin’s sudden decision to marry Elizabeth, instead of Jane, in chapter 15 of the original Pride and Prejudice. Although the movie remains accurate to the setting and time of the novel, the 19th century culture is intertwined with the attributes of a zombie apocalypse. The events of the plot are almost identical to the original storyline, except with the addition of living dead to create more conflict. In chapter 15 of Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Collins has a tête-à-tête with Mrs.…
hides behind the idea of “poverty and development”, when in fact it is a problem of sex, ”lots of simultaneous sexual partnerships, lots of untreated STIs and lots of uncircumcised men”, (book 134) 5. Chapter 6 presents ideas on abstinence, sex and condoms. Summarize the main points of this chapter. (i.e. What does the author say about these topics and how they affect data and HIV? What is the impact of the government, religion and ideology?…
The first chapter that I chose is chapter 2, The Brain and Behavior. This chapter focuses on the nervous system, structures of the brain and their functions, genetics and behavior, and more about how the brain works. The nervous system is talked about in this chapter as “the body’s electrochemical communication circuitry”. Within this subtopic, it talks about pathways and divisions in the nervous system. It also talks about neurons in the nervous system, which are the things that handle the…
Vowel's chapter 4 is on state violence, which includes residential schools, the relocations, the sixties scoop, the polluted water and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal people as solution. The chapter was an interesting read, as it is quite informative and touches various subjects linked with state violence. Vowel's fourth chapter is basically a denunciation of state violence against Indigenous people in Canada, and reading the TRC's call to action gives us perspective on concrete, defined…
