Eventually, credit continued to evolve and retailers began to offer their own charge cards, or lines of credit that needed to be paid at the end of the month. Then, in 1949, the world of consumer credit changed forever with the introduction of the Diners Club Card (Bankers Rate). The card was born of sheer convenience, responding to a need to pay for things at different retailers without carrying cash or a checkbook – or 5 different store charge cards. It simply wasn’t sensible for a woman to need to carry 6 charge cards with her to go out shopping for the day. Shortly after, in 1958, the BankAmericard was introduced, the first “credit card” as the term is used today. The BankAmericard could be used at any retailer that accepted it, even across state lines and balances didn’t have to be paid in full every month (Bankers Rate). In today’s market, there are thousands of different kinds of credit cards available to every type of consumer. These cards are attractive to consumers because of their multitude of benefits as well as how fast and easy it is to apply. Online, opening a credit card is as simple as filling in a bit of personal information and hitting submit. Generally speaking, a decision and credit limit are available within…

Even a century long time after his death, Wilfred Owen is still famous for his war poetry written during World War 1. In his poem, Owen uses various language techniques to vividly illustrate the horrendous reality of the war. Hence, he communicates his own anti-war feelings implied beneath his techniques. However, although he is now known as an anti-war poet, for once, he had been a naive boy, who had volunteered to fight in war. At first, he was thrilled to fight for one’s country. But soon,…

While the card drawing technique is a playful method of random homework selection, it answers the call of Cooper et al. [4] in considering “non-achievement-related effects of homework” (p. 54), and more specifically addresses two contemporary important issues facing mathematics educators. Yellow Card It is an average day at Cumberland Elementary; my face warms from the sun gleaming through the windows, and I sit in my desk in Mrs. Huffman’s second grade classroom. It is a rather cheerful classroom; chairs of all different vibrant colors stationed at each desk, my own being purple. A cushy rug with a checkered pattern displaying the alphabet fills space between the desks and the chalkboard. The wall to my left has the sticker board marking how many teeth each student has lost. I…

In thinking of war that way, however, we often overlook the very personal costs of war; while we may think in the abstract terms of numbers of dead soldiers, we overlook the cognitive, physical, and psychological on soldiers, civilians, and even the entire world. Indeed, while war shows man’s resilience and sacrifice, it also highlights what is worst about mankind, and its effects…

The poet used a simile to convey the ragged wretched state of the soldiers. They are''Coughing like hags''. The once clean, strong, handsome, young men are being compared to…
