Influencer Chapter Summary

Improved Essays
As a leader the books that made up the course material for class can be used every day. The book Influencer and Three Signs of a Miserable Job are beneficial to leaders at every level of an organization and I would recommend them to almost everyone. The books are neither manipulative nor forceful in their approach to leadership. The two books were not the only methods of leadership to take and use. John Boyd’s OODA loop, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and the list of Logical Fallacies all can be used to become a better leader when practiced every day.
The book Influencer turned out to be a far better book than I first believed it would. The book began as what seemed like a self-help book. Turns out that it sort of was, but ended up far more useful in life than a simple do this and not that kind of book. Leadership is an art form and that art is about influencing people. Not commanding them, this is the job of a manager. If you want to be a leader learning to influence is the real key to success.

Focus on particulars and not on broad ideas. As the training supervisor of my work section, I need to define the specifics of what I wish to achieve as a training supervisor and make it clear to those around me what I wish to accomplish. What direction do I wish to take the training, how can we better measure the effectiveness of that specific training. Should locally developed tests need to be accomplished so that I can follow the progress of the training? The more specific I can become with the goals for the training section and the better I can measure the progress of our training the better I can understand my effectiveness and a training

Set specific and measurable goals with your employees, then regularly monitor their progress toward achieving them. Above all, leadership is a people job. Often times it is interesting to see how the lines of leadership can transfer from a business minded book to leadership in education. While reading Leadership Gold, by John C. Maxwell, I have learned that a skillful leader is built overtime and there will be constant ups and downs in a leader’s leadership journey. For me, three chapters that stood out were If It’s Lonely at the Top, You’re not doing Something Right, Keep Learning to Keep Leading and Experience Is Not the Best Teacher. When speaking with my mentor on the chapters I chose, we both agreed that if you don’t form professional relationships with your staff you are going to miss an iatrical part of being a leader. In Chapter 1, I highlighted a section that really stuck with me once…

The main idea of the book I choose the book “Act like a leader, think like a leader, by Herminia Ibarra, which is inspirational read for everyone who has a passion for leading. Ibarra, redefines the traditional leadership notion of “think first, and then act’’ by acting first and then thinking. She described The “Outsight Principle” which is the mine idea of this book. Through the implementation of the “outsight principle”, Ibarra believes that one can improve or develop into an effective leader. This principle attests that the only way to think like a leader is to first act it out and that is to come out of ones’ comfort zone by start doing changes and more experiences.…

An effective assessment will allow the training department to focus in on those areas that have the greatest need. Specifically, the assessment should provide insight into those areas or staff that is in need of training as well as identify what kind of training is needed. There are generally three areas of focus with a training needs assessment. Those are: Organization Analysis: Which is an analysis of the workplace and company which is centered around the environment, strategies, and resources of the organization. Reflection on Book Title “The Leader, The Teacher & You” I share the same sentiment with the author that “Walk the ground!” is essential for a leader to earn respect from the ground. Walking the ground also requires social competency skills such as being able to “communicate to influence” and having “interpersonal effectiveness”. In future, I will apply this principle of “Walk the ground!” by constantly engaging my superiors, peers and subordinates for their guidance and opinions through cohesion and feedback sessions on how various tasks can be done more effectively and efficiently. Through these sessions, I will seek to understand their concerns and challenges in their area of work.…
