Material For the musical condition a Piano and video recorder will be needed, while a laptop with access to a typing test will be necessary for the control condition. Midazolam and equipment needed for cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be present in case it becomes necessary. Method Stimuli The stimuli used for the musical condition will be a ten minute section from a piece, taken from the Pianos specimen Sight-Reading Tests for Grade 8, from the ABRSM. The control condition will be given a piece of text 500 words in length from “Finnegan’s wake” by James Joyce. Participants from both conditions will be asked about familiarity, to ensure that any improvement of the stimuli suggests learning, signifying that information is being deposited in to LTM. Procedure The study will employ a between-subjects design. Prior to the first session participants in the control condition will complete a randomized typing test in order to determine a baseline of words-per-minute and as proof of ability.
