    The Big Move After what felt like a lifetime of planning, our family was finally making the big move from New York to Texas. The house we lived in was my childhood home and my husband and I shared it for fifteen years together. This was not going to be an easy task. Our first hurdle was preparing for this huge adventure. Secondly, we needed to drive both cars down. That meant that we would not have the other person to take over driving when our eyelids became as heavy as weights over our eyes. Finally, we would need to settle into this strange new world. My husband’s family is very close and they all live within a half an hour from each other. They were hysterical over us leaving. It took months preparing them for the final good-byes. As we packed endless amounts of boxes, we emptied thirty years of memories out of the attic and filled an entire dumpster with trash. Most of our furniture and the bigger boxes were packed into a pod that was transported by a trucking company. I am still not sure how it all fit. My husband and brother-in-law packed it so tight, that it was bursting at the seams. Watching them was like watching a game of Tetris. To get the doors closed, we had four grown men lean on it while my husband secured the lock. It reminded me of a person sitting on a suitcase to fasten it.
