As in, he believes that he is too tough for anything. Many would go as far to say that from the author 's point of view he may be straight forward and to the point, however within the story there seems to be that emotion of a rough and tough little boy. He was somewhat filled with mischief and was looking to see just how far he could stretch the expectations of those around him.He was tough “And wanted to prove I was tough”, “I hurled lightbulbs like grenades”, and “... I flicked rocks at cats”, and “I kicked fences, I shooed pigeons” (Soto). With lines like these, one can only assume that the main character thought he was transforming into what he believed was as tough guy. However, he did this all for attention, as he wanted fame or popularity from these tough actions and received none. He changed from what we assume was a sweet, little innocent boy, to one filled with toughness and anger to gain the views of those around him.
