Curtis Institute of Music: a description of professional experience, if any, including roles and dates performed, names of performing organizations, nonoperatic musical activities, and dramatic training and experience. I love music for many years, and I try my best to do anything relates to performance. I ‘d like to describe my professional experience in the following passages. In July, 2014 I won the champion in Music of Spirit and Faith Group, the second in Female Chamber Choirs Group, the…
One of the most adventurous pianists and inescapable presence in the scene is Matt Mitchell, who, besides his own work, is a fundamental piece in Tim Berne’s Snakeoil, Dave Douglas Quintet, Darius Jones Quartet, and Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Bird Calls. The cover of A Pouting Grimace, his latest work, exhibits an intriguing collage of figures that assume different forms, textures, and colors. This illustrates Mitchell’s compositional style and music. These forms sometimes live by themselves; other…
Holiday Concert Evaluation After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert. List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way…
blue" was more like jazz. I felt like the pitch for " The Firebird Finale" was more high than "The C Jam". Also the dynamics for " The Firebird Finale" fluctuated a lot in tone. For the instruments I heard the violin , flute, horns, piano and many more that I quite frankly don't know. I felt like all these instruments brought the song to life. They all played an important role that maybe if they weren't there it wouldn't have sounded as nice. For "The C jam blue" I heard the piano,…
amazing. I sometimes go to orchestrated concerts and the performance that I have seen specifically the NYU Symphony and the performances that these students did, was overall really great and flawless. My favorite piece by far and not because I’m instrument bias was, “The Joyful Escape”. The mini solo the clarinetist had was amazing and she didn’t mess up at that part at all. From “Two Chorales” to “Iona Alma mater” that clarinet played as smooth as it can ever be. I thought that you (the…
Have you ever played the viola? It seems hard and may not fun, but once you practice it, the viola is easy and fun to play. In order to play this instrument, you need a viola, a bow, a case, a sholder rest, and a rosin. Also playing at a concert is not bad as you think. First, you have to be able to hold your viola and bow. To be able to hold your viola you need a sholder rest. Hold the viola upside down with the back facing you and make sure your sholder rest looks like a frowny face. Then…
I have made it into the Central Coast Section Honor Choir group for seven years (6-12th grade) and the band for six years (7-12th grade). With the experience at Monterey Jazz Festival Education Program for the last six years, I also am very fluent in the way of jazz. I played at the Monterey Jazz Festival Middle School Honor Band from 7th to 8th grade and the High School Jazz Band from 9th-12th grade. I was in the Monterey Jazz Festival Honor Vocal Ensemble as a 9th grader as well and will be…
In my seventh grade year, I decided to join band. I had known how to play flute, and though I wasn't the best I still enjoyed it so I continued. I played in band in eighth grade, too. The directors had decided since I was so “talented” I should join marching band. I had taken a lot of consideration into that decision and I decided to go ahead and give it a shot because I had nothing better to do and I needed to get in shape, anyways. I had went to the conditioning work outs during the summer…
Blank Banshee makes repeated use of 808 bass drums, sub-bass lines and kick drums, double or triple time hi-hats. He also uses sound effects from computer programs in his songs, such as Skype’s “hang up” sound effect being used on one track. His musical samples are more obscure, taking parts from songs by The Beach Boys and Grandmaster Flash, as well as parts from the soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the sounds that Windows 95 and Mac OSX play while booting up, which ties…
On Monday, I had the pleasure of attending the Voice Majors Recital. This was the first concert/recital that I have attended at Queens College. I walked into the concert hall expecting to see a performance by a large choir. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the first performer walked onto the stage by herself. When the pianist started playing, I looked into the program and noticed the first song was in Italian. Katerina Hadjipavlis, the soprano soloist, began to and it was amazing! I…
