After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert.
List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way we’re able to participate in all the inside jokes we have as a band. Maybe it’s because I had a great honor to announce that the band was going to Disneyland. Or maybe it was because I’ve gotten to know our amazing conductor and teacher for a solid two school years, in which this would be my last. No matter what the reason, this concert was truly amazing and sounded fantastic, even if we all panicked and went crazy before the concert just because Nico didn't show up. Anyway, the one true thing that stood out to me from our concert was the trumpet section playing “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” in a part from “Cartoon Christmas”. Wow. I believe the absolute best sounding piece we played was “Sleigh Ride.” There are many reasons why this song was probably one the best we played during the concert. I really like this song, and since we play it every year, it has a really special meaning to the school, so playing it correctly is a pretty big deal to me. I really enjoyed hearing the perfect amount of every section in this song; the clarinets playing the melody delicately, the saxes and brass harmonizing together, and flutes supporting the clarinets with a small countermelody at a point.
