The NYU Concert: The Joyful Escape

Improved Essays
Overall the concert was amazing. I sometimes go to orchestrated concerts and the performance that I have seen specifically the NYU Symphony and the performances that these students did, was overall really great and flawless. My favorite piece by far and not because I’m instrument bias was, “The Joyful Escape”. The mini solo the clarinetist had was amazing and she didn’t mess up at that part at all. From “Two Chorales” to “Iona Alma mater” that clarinet played as smooth as it can ever be. I thought that you (the composer) did an awesome job kind of describing the song that would follow next. Usually, the composer would just be in silent and everyone in the crowd would just assume they understood what the next song would be about, and yes the

For the soloists, it was really powerful and seeing Dr. Sung Ae Lee move more than usual. The dynamics went loud to more loud, soft to loud, and slowly fades and pauses and chords strikes making a performance to be alive. There was a balance between the melody lines and the accompaniment giving a flowing sound and soothing tone. I enjoyed watching and hearing the cello for the first time with the piano were it accompaniments each other. There were no awful mistakes but the piece with the cello…

Our diction for this song should be improved, the audience probably knew the song, but many of the words you could not make out. Facials were done nicely too, they were pretty much automatic with this song because it is so…

The singalong songs, really bring the audience and the band together, and it's a really cool feeling when they are in sync. One song, was rudolph the red nosed reindeer, where it was either a trumpet with a mute, or a horn, was extremely overpowering sound, and not a great one at that. I'm inclined to think it was a trumpet due to the in general “blat” or blaring of the noise, and the distortion it receives when playing at higher volumes. The symphony also played a piece called sarajevo, which was an excellent song, and a good example of blend and balance, especially between low and high voices eg. trombones and…

I do not think any words could have truly described how I nor the rest of the audience felt during that performance. The opinions and analogies of the pieces found in the program notes did slightly influence me. I agreed with and understood most opinions and comments of the performances. The listenings I did for my pre-concert assignment were not nearly the same thing as being in the auditorium. It was a completely different experience to see, hear and feel the performance in person as opposed to watching a video on a screen and trying to listen to the depth of the orchestra through…

Concert Report: Pomona College Orchestra In Pomona College in October 4th, the orchestra played three pieces; Tangents for George Walker, Trittico Botticelliano for Ottorian Respighi, and Symphony No. 104 for Franz Joseph Haydn. The first one for Walker music like Jazz style, but I did not know what type is it. The second music for Respighi were three movements: La Primavera (Spring), L’Adorazione dei Magi (The Adoration of the Magi), and La Nascita di Venere (The Birth of Venus). The first La Primavera (Spring) is in E major, and the same name of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.”…

Holiday Concert Evaluation After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert. List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way we’re able to participate in all the inside jokes we have as a band.…

The Symphony Band Ceremonies was the first time I have attended a symphony band concert, and it was the first time I have attended a concert at UMass. Before this, I only attended several pop music concerts. They are two kinds of concert, and they brought me totally different feelings. New York Philharmonic is one of my favorite places to listen to the western classical music. I always have a great positive sense after a concert. To be honest with you, the idea of attending live events is really good and useful for every student. The goal of our educational system is to make people study not only their major material, but also be well rounded and can have a conversation on different topics in other fields of studies. Live musical assignment helps the students improve their knowledge by first learning the theory in the classroom and let use critical thinking ability later during the live musical…

The performance attempted to give a dark but loving story which will keep you amused throughout the whole concert. I learned a lot about the choreographers in the performance by the way they presented themselves. Presentation means a lot and the way they proceeded was professional.
