Plague inc. can impact biodiversity in our world today, and vice versa. One obvious consequence of deforestation is the loss of habitat for animals. But one unforeseen consequence arises when dealing with infectious diseases: the prevalence of deadly pathogens increase. For example, studies have shown that mosquitos that adapt to the loss of habitat almost always are better vectors for diseases like malaria than other mosquitoes that did not adapt. In some cases, the highly effective mosquitos replaced up to 20 other species of less infective mosquitos, reducing diversity and increasing the prevalence of highly transmissible malaria. Similar Phenomena happens with certain species of snails, showing that homogeneous populations spread and evolve to be vectors of infectious disease. 1 Some similar effects of deforestation happen through what is known as disease reservoirs. Animals that are pushed out…

In our planet, all life depends entirely on the variety of life existing on it and the services and goods it provides. The biological diversity within the planet such as the relationship between each specie all play a significant role. For instance, the way in which mussels help purify water affects humans and how trees provide oxygen for living species. The variety of life within our planet can be described as biodiversity. Biodiversity can be described as an umbrella term that elucidates the…

Biodiversity is a very important part to the ecosystem. It is defined as “the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.” There is more evidence pilling up that it is being lost at all scales. This is a complex system that is not only important to a healthy environment globally and…

Biodiversity and ecosystems work hand in hand with one another. Without one, it is unlikely to have a thriving version of the other. Biodiversity is defined as the variety of species that are found in a natural state. Many consider this to be talking about species of animals, however, this includes ecosystems and genetic diversity. Chapter six tells how biodiversity contributes to what we know as biological wealth. This can largely determine how one sees a country’s wealth and economical…

Biodiversity conservation and sustainability are the two major challenges on a global scale in all ecosystems and communities around the world. Multiple factors affect these two in complex ways, and both the areas are often identified as ‘wicked’ problems in ecology. As such, both the topics can be approached by fieldwork, tracking the underlying connections that affect the quality of human life and provide evidence-based feedback on policy matters. In my research statement, I provide an outline…

Biodiversity is Threatened The animals that live in the rainforests and forests are dependant on the many different species that live there. They are also dependant on the trees and plants that grow in their areas. When deforestation happens, it tears away the plants and trees, which in turn, chases away or kills the animals living there. As the habitat is ripped away, the original species living there struggle to live while other species could move in and take over the rest of the land, killing…

BALANCING BIODIVERSITY IN CHANGING ENVIRONMENT: IMPORTANCE AND CONSERVATION Abstract: Biodiversity is the variety and variability of living organisms, including their species richness in an environment. It is a major component of environment and useful for all living organisms including man. Biodiversity plays important role in regulation of climate. Biodiversity is a major part of life-support system. It is particularly ecological, economic, spiritual, cultural, and aesthetic importance.…

An analysis on the importance of biodiversity in an ecosystem as shown by the gray wolf extirpation and reintroduction in Yellowstone Park The extirpation of the grey wolf (Canis lupus) in Yellowstone Pak is a prime example of the impact of biodiversity loss, specifically a keystone species, on a terrestrial ecosystem. Biodiversity can be explained by breaking down the two words combined to form the word. Bio is a Greek word used as a prefix meaning life. Diversity can be used in many…

The word biodiversity is quite simple to understand, bio- life and diversity- variety. So, what? If one day you decide find out that all you can eat for the rest of your life is Cheetos. One day some freak accident occurs and the last Cheeto plant is destroyed and now you have nothing to eat. Sure, somehow you could evolve to eat something else, but evolution takes a lot of time (time you don’t have). If you ate things other than just Cheetos this would not impact you as much. This is an…

In many regions of the world, the loss of biodiversity is at its peak. Biodiversity, or biological diversity, is the whole range of different varieties of living things and systems on this earth. It includes animal species, plant species, ecosystems and landscapes. We need biodiversity for its immense capabilities. Conservation is an important piece in biodiversity, with species and populations decreasing, conservation is a necessity. Conservation is planned management of a natural resource to…
