Since elementary school, my favorite teachers have always been social science teachers. I have always loved my United States History teachers because they actually cared about whether the students in their classes learned. I also really loved my AP Psychology teacher because it was a class I was really interested in and she taught the material very well. I think my favorite teachers have been teachers that are not only interested in the subject they are teaching, but that care about students education in general. I also believe that my general interest in social science classes made it easier for me to enjoy my teachers. I tend to do well in social science classes like history, psychology, and sociology because of my general interest in those…

The Teacher Who Believed In Me My most memorable moment, during my early years of school, was my seventh grade English Teacher, Mrs. McCoy. She was by far my favorite teacher ever. She made learning fun and enjoyable due to a very energetic and caring personality. You could tell that she genuinely cared about how well her students did in her class. She always worked with her students that needed extra help with the assignments. And I was definitely one of her students that…

this whole country actually. And even before I come here, I already surmise believed it. I was exhausted; I grabbed all my bags and lay down on my bed and locked the door. I stayed there for a couple of minutes thinking about what would my life be in this new place. I looked out of the windows; I see nobody walking around the sidewalk, or kids playing outside or people chit chatting in the neighborhood. And I said to myself, "I 'm already feeling lonely, I wouldn 't get a chance to make…

You know what makes those grade school “get to know you!” games ulcer-inducing? Being the only kid in class without an easy answer. At the beginning of each school year, without fail, our teachers would herd us into sharing circles and we were forced to choose an easy self-identifier to share with the class. In order for you to truly understand how I feel about sharing circles, here is what I imagine hell to be like: Everyone is forced to stand in an eternal, godawful sharing circle and watch,…

achieve this, everything else in life will just follow. I would be lying if I said that scared little girl inside my heart didn’t still believe this to be true to some extent, but with age came wisdom but we’ll get to this a little later. Seeing all the “pretty” people on tv, movies, ads, even in real life can be intimidating, convincing us all for the most part that this is just how life is. I hate to admit, but this way of thinking was apparent in my own family. My own mother was so unhappy…

Two of the most defining experiences in my life happened around the same time, sophomore year. My life changed so much just within the course of a few months. There are two days of my life that I will never forget because they both had a huge impact on me. I will never forget the day my nephew was born and I will never forget the day my dog died. Both of these experiences were not…

child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do.
