Personal Narrative: A New Place In Michigan

When I get out of the airport after a long travel. I stopped. Looked. And listened. New environment, new people, new language and a new beginning for me. I moved here in Michigan back in 2014. I 've heard lots of beautiful things about this state, this whole country actually. And even before I come here, I already surmise believed it. I was exhausted; I grabbed all my bags and lay down on my bed and locked the door. I stayed there for a couple of minutes thinking about what would my life be in this new place. I looked out of the windows; I see nobody walking around the sidewalk, or kids playing outside or people chit chatting in the neighborhood. And I said to myself, "I 'm already feeling lonely, I wouldn 't get a chance to make new friends in this area". It took me a year to …show more content…
But I 'm not really sure if that 's something for me to look forward to. I always wanted to know what it feels like to go out and play in the snow. It just looks so fun to me. In the Philippines, we only have two types of weather: sunny and rainy day. But when I came here in Michigan, there 's spring, summer, fall and winter season. I personally think fall is a beautiful season: looking at the leaves turning into different colors. But, it 's not my favorite season. I 'm not a fan of cold weather, especially winter. Winter season came, I went out to buy my first winter wardrobe: sweaters, comfy pajamas and socks, thick jackets and some winter boots. I also bought skin protection essentials such as hair conditioner, body lotions, lip balms, moisturizers and even sunscreen (yes even if it 's cold outside); to keep my skin and lips hydrated and not dry and flaky. I would prefer to stay inside during winter, but sometimes I have to go out to buy groceries, and now that I 'm back in college, I have to go to school even if it 's the season that I 'm not a fan of. It 's a really new thing I have

I did not have a clue that fall could easily turn any place in the world in such a magic, romantic, charming, and adventurous place. After living in Boston for a year, I moved to St. Charles, MO. St. Charles taught me that no matter where I am at, I will always feel charmed by fall. I have spent fall in different places because I usually travel on thanksgiving break. I went to Chicago once, and I love how the city looked all charmed by the fall time.…

Mother Nature chased us out of Piedmont with immense amounts of snow. This snow may have kicked us out of our camping trip but it did not ruin the fun Jack and I would have over our spring vacation. Once we made it back into St.Louis I went over to Jacks. Unlike most people we went outside and made an igloo. I felt as if I was an eskimo, in Antarctica building my home with my best bud.…

Snow Storming Day By the age of 8 moving was a reoccuring theme in my youth. My parents and I moved from Ethiopia, to Uganda, to Davis, and at the time, to Maryland. After moving many times, the change in schools, friends, and lifestyle was easy. However one thing that stands out in my mind about Maryland is the weather. The cold, humidity, and snow were things that I was unaccustomed to, and found very interesting at the time.…

Growing up in Michigan has been a dream come true. The sights and sounds of the Upper Peninsula are something out of a picture book. Looking out your living room window and overlooking one of the Great Lakes is something not everyone gets to experience. Moving away brought me to another great lake, another beautiful view, and more sights to see. Living in Michigan is like a never-ending tour of sightseeing.…

That season is no other than fall. Fall is what I like to call ‘The Goldilocks Season’ as it is not too hot, not too cold, but just right. Fall also brings us to the rush of the holidays as well as the changing and falling of leaves. Simply put, fall is the most enjoyable season in New Jersey as it…

I'm not a winter person. I can live without polar temperatures, ice and shoveling driveways and sidewalks. I do like a white Christmas though. For me the perfect snow would begin to fall as we leave the late Christmas Eve service, cover the world in pure white blanket on Christmas Morning and be gone a few days later. But this year I have to admit, as much as I enjoy warm weather, the mild temperatures has thrown me off.…

Just a city girl born in South Detroit and raised in West Bloomfield. Growing up in Michigan is a unique experience that a lucky few get to call theirs. It is something the rest of the states get a preview of through a flash of images and clips in “Pure Michigan” commercials. My childhood was a fortunate one filled with road trips for sunsets “Up North” and Mackinac Island fudge. Nowhere could compare to being raised in this odd mitten-shaped state.…

It was quite lovely. Another time, I was doing the dreaded Plymouth-to-Canton walk, and for the first time, I noticed that I could not smell anything.
