Eldon Dedini was a talented cartoonist who had a very funny sense of humor. While some of his works referenced serious topics, he found a way to engage his audience with the lighter side of the issue. He had been known to say that, “the gag is the whole secret to cartooning.” It was his feeling that many people can draw, but that the joke is the importance to make the cartoon. Eldon Dedini was born in King City California June 29th 1921. His father was an Italian dairy farmer and a bookkeeper, while his mother was a schoolteacher. As a young boy, he found a love for comic books and began to subscribe to Esquire magazine. He sold his first cartoon to Esquire magazine at the age of 18. Continuing with his education Eldon Dedini graduated from Salinas Junior college and studied at the Chouinard Institute of Art. At Chouinard Institute Dedini met his wife Virginia Conroy.
