    What are the Gods and Godesses role in these epics? There are so many gods in Greek mythology that it can become very confusing, but each one have there own special attributes that make them unique and each one have a different role specifically in the epic. The Greek society in the Iliad placed a lot of emphasis on the gods to the extent that the success of the warriors and kings during the wars depended more on the role played by the gods and goddesses. It's because of these superhuman abilities they have so much power that people worship them or in most cases fear them. In the epic you can see the influnce the God's have on these people on the way they think, act and believe. During this period, the population had a strong connection to the gods and believed that all their actions and activities were already fated by those gods. “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey” show that if gods, goddesses, and demigods were offered sacrifices and things that were pleasant to them, the population believed that they could stop any future events that could harm them in any way. Basically the gods and goddesses played a huge role in determining winners during contests or wars between parties. In that aspect, do the Gods control humans?
