repeated cross-sectional survey which draws about 2,000 representative samples each year starting in from 1984. The data were collected through face-to face interviews. To keep track of the social change in Taiwan, the survey repeats collecting data with almost the same modules each five years. In this study, since it covers the scale for common mental disorders, and both family relationships and social relationships, the data from the 2010 TSCS will be used to analyze the relationship between social relationships and common mental disorders. Also, it is the most recent available data including the variables of interest in this paper in Taiwan. As for the sample size, only one case was missing on all the questions used in this study, therefore, by estimating missing values using full information maximum likelihood function (FIML) in Mplus, 1,895 cases enters the final analysis. Variables Common Mental Disorders The 12-item Chinese Health Questionnaire for common mental disorders is a revision for the purpose of cultural differences of the British General Health Questionnaire. This questionnaire was administered in the TSCS starting from 1990 to capture the morbidity of light psychiatric disorders in Taiwanese communities (Cheng and Williams 1985; Fu et al. 2012). The common mental disorders is measured by asking: In the past two weeks, had you: (1) Been suffering from headache or pressure in your head? (2) Had palpitations and worried that you might have heart trouble? (3)…
Analysing reliability statistics regarding question: Creating a new company or becoming an entrepreneur would mean for you, and considering that Cronbach’s Alpha indicator is the reliability index of the scale, taking into account the 7 variables of the question, the degree of reliability is high. However, it was necessary to eliminate the economic uncertainty variable to assure the reliability, because that question presented a higher result than 0.801 which is the Cronbach’s Alpha (See Table…
MIS 790 Comprehensive Exam Q1. To be able to build prediction models of botnet attacks, we had to decide information requirements. (a) What process did you use for identifying predictor variables for modelling botnet traffic flows? (b) What additional measures can be taken in terms of information (or data) gathering to further improve the accuracy of the prediction models? (a) I started with a literature survey and read articles to understand the problem and technical terms. To understand the…
My dependent variable will be their perception of their latest relationship. To measure this, I will be using a Guttmann scale. This will enable me to incorporate both a dichotomous scale and a Likert scale. A dichotomous scale is when a question has two possible responses. A Likert scale is a type of rating scale that measures how someone feels about a certain topic containing degrees of feeling. With multiple Likert questions in a survey Cronbach’s alpha helps measure its reliability.…
outcomes, and locus of control and stress. These links can affect college students’ development (Mooney, 1991; Ahlin & Antunes, 2015). This study found a significant relationship between internal LOC and stress, and stress and well-being. Researchers were not able to identify variables that mediate the relationship between locus of control and well-being. The current study determined a significant relationship between internal locus of control and well-being with stress mediating this…
The chapter talks about predictors of teacher burnout which are job stress, how safe the environments, and peer support (Jeanne H. Ballantine, 2015). Self- efficacy had four outliers that had to be followed to prevent burnout and eventual departure of the school. The text had a study to see if job stress, safe environments and peer support had a correlation with burnout. The results showed that there was a significant effect every year on teacher burnout. Chapter 5 goes more in depth than the…
experts doing research on women’s pay in the work. Some experts that I found are Heidi Hartmann, Ariane Hegewisch, and Jeffrey Hayes. They all are educated individuals with their Ph.D.’s so I trust that their research is thorough, good quality research. Some major news networks talk about the gender gap and there are some magazines that have articles about the gender gap between men and women, Such as New York magazine. One reference I could use for my topic could be a website called Institute…
The cold open from The Wire episode “Old Cases” is a supplementary event that demonstrates the communication failures within Lieutenant Daniel’s detail of the Baltimore Police Department. The scene opens with a medium shot of Hauk’s foot and tilts up to show Hauk struggling to push a desk through a doorway. Given the nature of Hauk’s character on the show, it is unsurprising that his approach to maneuvering the desk through the doorway is through the use of force and physical strength. In this…
injury. When you look at the negative side of implementing solitary confinement, you see a lot more research done and studies claiming that long periods of time in isolated environments leads to mental distress. So, the question we must ask is how long is too long to be isolated in a cell? This answer varies due to many different variables, per most of the studies used for this paper. Some of the variables discussed include whether the inmate had been placed in isolation before, whether the…
Ruler Before receiving any materials, we had to decide which items were going to be our dependent, independent, and constant variables. Independent Variables: Baking Soda, Alka-Seltzer, and Mentos Dependent Variable: How much the balloon inflates / Ability to actually inflate Controlled Variables: vinegar, yeast, ballons, same container, same measuring tape, and same measuring spoons. Once receiving our materials, we automatically divided the amount of baking soda, mentos, alka-seltzer, and…
