Kite Day is a favorite among many special days in Kindergarten. This fun-filled GCS tradition began more than twenty years ago, as a “Dads and Kids Day”. Over the years, it has transitioned into a mentoring day for each kindergarten student and their eighth-grade buddy. Both grades have something in common, since they are graduating from their grades and preparing for big changes. As Kite Day approaches, the Kindergarteners anticipate finding out who their special eighth-grader will be.…
I reviewed the film “The Lost Tribes”. This film was about 10 of the original 12 Hebrew tribes, which, under the authority of Joshua, claimed Canaan, the Promised Land, after the passing of Moses. These tribes are Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, and Joseph (whose tribe was isolated into the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh). The vast majority of the general population of the Northern Kingdom were extradited to old Assyria (2 Kings 17:6). A significant number of…
Have you ever seen an elephant at a zoo? Well they are the biggest land animals on Earth, but they are also one of the closest animals related to humans when it comes to emotions and intelligence. Both Virginia Morell and Joshua Plotnik explain how elephants are related to humans and how they express emotion. There are many ways that authors show purpose for explaining how elephants behave and work together using intelligence and compassion.Morell wrote about how elephants act closely to a human…
Persuasion is an art that is used in everyday language, and has existed for as long as humanity itself has. It can be discreet, yet there is always a form of persuasion impacting each and every person, from presidential elections, to a teenager wanting to go to a party. It continues to be an essential part of our lives, yet the act of persuading goes to a greater extent than just coercion. Persuasion impacts humans on a psychological level, where one has to ask themselves; how is the opponent…
Racism is Morally Wrong Many years ago Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel stated that “racism is man's gravest threat to man - the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason” (Abraham Joshua Heschel). Today that statement still rings true here in America. Despite centuries of moral and social progress millions of people still live under the yoke of prejudice and racist acts that continuously have us living in a state of perpetual chaos. Racism is philosophically incompatible with a majority of the…
Joshua, Gideon, and David are the mentors assigned when there is a battle raging in my calling. Each of these warfighters had their flaws, however, they depended on God to fight the battle. David amid his troubles had to encourage himself (1st Sam. 30:6); Gideon decided to throw out his fleece (Jud. 6:37); Joshua commanded to march around a wall (Jos. 6). At any rate, these men followed Gods instructions…
Robert E. Lee Robert E. Lee was a General in the Confederate army and led the south in fighting the Union army in the American Civil War. He was a seasoned general, in fact, he could’ve even led the Union army if he took the offer up from President Lincoln. Before he decided to lead the south, he had thought long and hard because he didn’t really see a purpose for there to be a war centered around slavery. But with his ties to Virginia, he decided to go ahead and lead the Confederates in the…
148 years to reach its geographical peak. Rome is argued to be the successful military power in all of the Ancient Mediterranean (Joshua J. Mark, “Roman Empire”). Spanning twenty-five hundred miles, the Roman empire controlled the Mediterranean (“Ancient Rome”). Legions trampled anything in their path. Adapting to any environment they had to and changing formation, to give them the…
potentially Rosemary could be the better parent. Rose mary did have her points where she made a very it clear she was teaching an important lesson and the most unforgettable one for me is when she is telling Jeannette about the Joshua Tree. She tells Jeanette “It’s the Joshua tree’s struggle that gives it inner beauty,”(38) I feel that this is a staple in the book for Rosemary. I think without Rosemary saying this to Jeannette she might have never tried to see the positive out of everything that…
Gandhi a Hindu monk, Thich Nhat Hanh a Vietnamese Buddhist, Abraham Joshua Heschel a Hasidic Jew, and Dr. Martin Luther King a African American Christian, are a diverse groups of individual with different religious beliefs and ethnic ties but they all share a ethics for non-violence. However even though they all realized…
