When I was a kid, I went to celebrate Easter at my aunt and uncle’s house. They had set up an Easter egg hunt in the backyard, with my older cousin, Keith, dressed in a bunny costume. After we found all the eggs, my brother Jack and my younger cousin Bradley wanted to play football. Me, being a simple minded child, just wanted to eat my candy. I was pulling my other cousin, Keira, to come with me, but she wanted to play football, too. Bradley then turned around and said it was “Boy’s Only”, and that girls couldn’t play football. Keira got upset and told my aunt, which resulted in Bradley getting time out. Even at young ages, children are raised to believe that women are limited to certain ideals, which they are not.
