    due to the timing, it’s always on or the other. This being said, while I have been in shows before, I’ve never directed or been involved in the rehearsal process without being in the cast, so seeing the way our cast grew was amazing and awe inspiring. I couldn’t have asked for better people to work with and extremely honoured that I got to work with them. One cast member I would particularly like to highlight is Nicole Shi, who played Meg. I wish I remember what was going through mine and Rebecca’s heads when we cast a grade nine as one of our leads. Looking back, that was a very large risk that I don’t think we fully thought through in the moment. However, it turned out to be one of the best risks I’ve taken in my life. She fit right in and stepped right up to the plate. When she was up on the stage, I couldn’t even tell the age and experience difference between the sisters (although there is a bit of irony in the fact that the oldest sister was played by a grade nine and the youngest sister played by a grade eleven, making her the oldest of the sisters). I could write a lot more about how proud I am of everyone, however that is not the only thing I have to talk about. Directing is completely different than leading a crew or blocking in class. I thought that between all of my past experiences I could patchwork this whole ‘directing’ thing together. I was wrong. I was so wrong.
