Adlerian Therapy I personally would prefer to use the Adlerian style of counseling in my practice. I believe that this theory takes the whole person into account, and not just the problem(s) at hand. I think it is fantastic that this type of therapy makes sure that the client’s physical needs are met (place to sleep, food, and social support) before delving into deeper subjects, because if the client does not know where they are going to sleep tonight it is going to be hard to focus on what the client initially came to therapy for. I also believe that personal goals are an important part of the therapeutic process. If the client does not know what they wish to achieve in counseling the sessions might become unproductive. How the Theory Relates…
An Existentialist Pretending to be an Adlerian While I believe Adlerian therapy is the best practice for me working with clients, existentialism has played a primary role in my personal development over the past ten years. The concept that “The existentialist does not view death negatively but holds that awareness of death as a basic human condition gives significance to living” became crystal clear to me in 2006 (Corey, 2017, p 145). Following nearly a year of exponentially increasing pain, I…
Adlerian Therapy The basic goal of the Adlerian approach is to help clients identify and change their wrong beliefs about self, others, and life, and thus to participate more fully in a social world. Clients are not like regular clients and viewed as sick; they are viewed as discourage.
