Personal Objectives
1. I will be able to develop confidence in performing nursing/clinical tasks by receiving beneficial feedbacks from my preceptors and the staff in the pediatrics and NICU units.

- I achieved this objective by having a lot of opportunities in this clinical practicum to improve my nursing skills and learn how to handle challenging situations. I was able to shadow a mother and baby RN. I was able to take newborn vitals, feed newborns, change diapers, learn how to give newborn a bath, learn how to do newborn hearing screening, and learn how to properly care for a perineal tear. At the beginning, I was really nervous to perform some of the tasks because I felt that I might hurt the newborn since they are very tiny and fragile.

I audited patient charts to determine whether or not the current nursing staff followed the new glucose gel protocol and whether or not the neonates’ glucose levels are corrected prior to being discharged. Then, I analyzed the data that I collected. To increase the nursing staff’s compliance with the use of the glucose gel in correcting hypoglycemia, my preceptors and I developed an online learning module on the new glucose gel protocol. In addition, there’s a pre-test for the current and new nursing staff to complete before they start the online learning module. After the completion of the online learning module, they will also complete a post-test. The pre-test and post-test evaluation is an effective tool to utilize in accessing the nursing staff knowledge before and after the completion of the online learning module. In the future, my preceptors or others can continue to audit charts to determine whether or not the online learning module increases the nursing staff’s compliance with the use of the glucose

I aspire to gain professional experience in the field of nursing, because of personal experiences that have led me to select this career. My passion for care-taking within the nursing realm stems from a passion at young age to render aid and experiences very dear to my heart. My care-taking skills began while I was caring for children at church, as an assistant to both the Children’s and Youth Department. When a child would arrive ill, I would make sure that little contact was made with other children to contain the illness. I also made sure the child would wash their hands thoroughly before consuming meals and would take an additional precaution of washing down tables and toys to diminish the spread of germs.…

I have always had a certain obsession with organizing. Arranging important documents into vanilla folders and double-checking labels to make sure I filed them correctly. For example, I would chronologically sort the memories of a bad college relationship into mental file cabinets “2006, 2007, and 2009,” in cerebral folders “R,” respectively. Maybe “R” stood for “reasoning.” According to me, there was no other effective way to deal with life.…

For the disability ministry project, we were asked to choose a practicum experience where we shadowed or spoke to someone helping someone with a disability. For my project I chose to spend some time in the class for disabled children at the high school I graduated from. Throughout the glimpse of time that was allotted for this particular practicum experience I learned a lot of exciting things about disabilities, but also made some disconcerting revelations. While spending the day at school I was able to interact with the students, teachers, and overall staff of the high school; gaining insights, perspectives, and forming thoughts on everything I had witnessed. From start to finish, my day back at school has left a lasting impression on me.…

Different experiments must be performed in order to achieve the best evidence of a theory. Therefore, it is important for nurses to update their knowledge by always informing themselves about any current new researches.…

Illustration essay Through the eyes of a newbie: Successful Nurse Nursing is a profession of caring for the individual, while the doctors are caring about the disease. Except for the fundamental knowledge base, qualities to be a successful nurse are not taught in school, some are innate and some are developed through experience and careful observation of the surroundings once you are practicing after finishing the nursing school. This is due to the fact that while you’re still in school many people, including myself, worry more about not failing courses and the clinical, than gather skills. What makes a nurse successful is the ability of making the best out of the interaction with the surrounding you people and picking up on their virtues.…
