NICU Nursing Scholarship Essay

I have always had a certain obsession with organizing. Arranging important documents into vanilla folders and double-checking labels to make sure I filed them correctly. For example, I would chronologically sort the memories of a bad college relationship into mental file cabinets “2006, 2007, and 2009,” in cerebral folders “R,” respectively. Maybe “R” stood for “reasoning.” According to me, there was no other effective way to deal with life. Every move was calculated and arranged to create a flawless coping mechanism—the perfect resilience. Nonetheless, unexpectedly life was still brewing.

So it came as a surprise to find out that life after Babson College was not going to play out as I had planned. When I referenced file cabinet 2010, folder “B” it indicated that after graduating Babson College I would enter the work force and climb the corporate ladder. I have an utmost respect for the registered nurses that with minutes to spare exhibited a level of professionalism, medical experience and knowledge that several times served to resuscitate my son. The NICU nurses inspired me to become a registered nurse. They left me with a need to provide my future patients the same level of esteemed medical care that my son received. New York University College of Nursing, being my first choice, with their Clinical Simulation Learning Center and off- campus clinical experience will provide me the nursing knowledge and clinical skills necessary to be an exceptional nurse.
