Karch Williams Professor Dr. Mrs. Coleman English 12 H 15 April 2015 The Negative Impact of Religion on Society As long as people have been unable to answer questions with an indefinite answer, religion has existed. It has grown a massive cult following since then, and can be blamed for a plethora of negative issues occurring in the world we live in. Many wars seen throughout history have been the result of religious beliefs, and people backing them. The events that occurred on 9/11, were religiously fueled. Al Qaeda is a terrorist group encouraged by their religious beliefs. They killed thousands of Americans in an airplane high jacking, the militants who stole these planes were promised seventy-two virgins in the afterlife for there “heroic actions” (Byman). After the attacks, it led to the invasion of Afghanistan. The invasion never would have happened if the attacks by Al Qaeda had not occurred. The war in Afghanistan has led to thousands of dead American soldiers and even thousands more injured. Another religiously motivated war is the Spanish Inquisition. It was brought upon to keep the Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms. Established by Ferdinand the second and Isabella the first, the inquisition was a war on Muslims and Jews. They were ordered to either convert to Catholicism or leave Spain. Ultimately, the purge of Muslims and Jews led to close to 200,000 people charged, while around 5,000 were executed. (McDevitt) Religion is not only seen in large…
At one point or another in anyone’s childhood, they have been reprimanded for some violent action and lectured on how violence is never the answer. Despite all the violence and aggression present in today’s society, this ideology still rings true. It has been proven time and time again that a nonviolent act can gain just as much attention and success as an act of violence. One well known instance of this was Henry David Thoreau 's stance against the Mexican-American War which inspired his essay…
We live in a society where times have changed and so have the traditions of many. In this 21st century we have more people open to accepting the beliefs of others, but we still see in some cases how loyalty can fog logical reasoning. Although foggy logical reasoning could be negative their can also be a positive effect in loyal peoples actions. Looking at religion as a whole, we see certain groups of people expressing their faith by committing acts of terrorism, and subordination. In other…

The defendant may argue that Ms. Bonifant was loud and belligerent because she did not do well at her swim meet plus the fact that she consumed a shot of Jameson prior to the altercation. Because of this she already had a chip on her shoulder when Mr. Roper bumped her at the bar. 1. During my summers working as a camp counselor in 2006-2009, many events took place during these years.
