The Negative Impact of Religion on Society As long as people have been unable to answer questions with an indefinite answer, religion has existed. It has grown a massive cult following since then, and can be blamed for a plethora of negative issues occurring in the world we live in. Many wars seen throughout history have been the result of religious beliefs, and people backing them. The events that occurred on 9/11, were religiously fueled. Al Qaeda is a terrorist group encouraged by their religious beliefs. They killed thousands of Americans in an airplane high jacking, the militants who stole these planes were promised seventy-two virgins in the afterlife for there “heroic actions” (Byman). After the attacks, it led to the invasion of Afghanistan. The invasion never would have happened if the attacks by Al Qaeda had not occurred. The war in Afghanistan has led to thousands of dead American soldiers and even thousands more injured. Another religiously motivated war is the Spanish Inquisition. It was brought upon to keep the Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms. …show more content…
The superstitions of people who hold religious beliefs, or pray to a personal god, would be the belief in ghosts, demons, or anything of the supernatural. The idea of a “magical man” watching their every move, and especially the moves in their bedroom, fall under the supernatural. An immoral act, or a sin, can prevent one from obtaining true divinity and could lead to not being allowed in heaven. In Hamlet, his life has flipped turned upside down, and he would want nothing more but to end his own life, but he cannot because of his faith, Shakespeare writes “His canon 'gainst self-slaughter!
