Al- Qaeda is one of many Islamist extremist groups. The extremists view Islam as a guiding ideology for politics and the organization of society. They believe that the sole basis for a country's law, culture, and social life should be a strict religious ways. Some Muslims believe in this while many do not. Islamic extremists believe that any measures are acceptable to achieve these ends, including violence. Al- Qaeda was acting in revenge because they wanted America’s support of Israel, their involvement with military presence in the Middle East, and the Persian Gulf War (“9/11 Attacks”). Al- Qaeda had their eyes set on sites that held a symbolic meaning to Americans because they were not powerful enough to take down the U.S. military. Al- Qaeda viewed U.S. support as a major obstacle in having Islamic order and authority, globally. The Twin Towers were the centerpiece of the World Trade Center. The towers symbolized economic power, prosperity, and globalization. The terrorists hoped by attacking these symbolic places it would leave Americans in widespread fear, which would leave the United States severely weakened (”FAQ about 9/11”). TSA was designed to prevent similar attacks in the future. To help ensure safety and strength in the United States, thousands of people committed to this administration. The Transportation Security Administration has the mission and vision to protect and ensure safety when traveling; while providing the most effective and efficient transportation security, as a counterterrorism organization (“Transportation Security Administration”). In just a week’s time, 71 firearms were discovered by TSA. 67 of the 71 firearms were loaded, 21 were round chambered and four were unloaded (“TSA Week in Review December Jan 9th- 15th”). Ammunition may be transported when packed properly in one's checked baggage. One may also travel with a firearm in their baggage, but it must be declared by the airline. Neither firearms or ammunition is allowed in carry on bags.
