    Migration I believe migration can occur both physically and mentally to a person, and cause negative consequences. In Mister Pip, written by Lloyd Jones, all of the characters in the story migrate as a way to escape and deal with all the horrors of reality that they experience. In this novel, migration only ever negatively effects Matilda. She either has to deal with the negative ramifications of migration or experiences horrors and events first hand that leads to her own negative migration. The first time that Matilda experiences the negative ramifications of migration is when she reflects upon her father’s moving to Australia and his transformation into a “white” man. This occurs when Mr. Watts and the children begin to save Great Expectations from extinction and Matilda connects with characters from Great Expectations and applies them to her own life. The negative ramifications are shown in Matilda’s mental monologue about her father: The new job meant my father had more contact with the white Australians. His English was good.
