    Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Mos Def, if you are a fan of music, specifically hip-hop, chance are you have hear one if not all of these names before. Aside from all being rappers, they have one thing in common; they originated from Brooklyn, New York. I am going to introduce you to an emcee that would have made the late great Notorious B.I.G. proud. His name is Joey Bada$$, and his first project called “1999” represents not only the golden age of hip-hop in the 1990’s, but also is culturally significant in various other ways. For those who don’t know, Joey Bada$$ is a 20 year old rapper that hails from Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, and when “1999” was released in 2012, Joey was at the young age of 17. 1999 's album artwork is of two boys skateboarding in the streets in a place where we can assume is Brooklyn, with the numbers "1999" entered in bold blue print, laying on a yellow backsplash. Chances are you may not have heard of Joey Bada$$, and at this time Joey was what was called an underground rapper. An underground rapper is essentially a rapper that is up-and-coming, relatively new, with great potential to make waves in the hip-hop world. 1999 contains 15 tracks with features from his Pro Era members. Pro Era is a collective of emcees hailing from Brooklyn that contains rappers, producers, and designers that Joey is considered to be the leader of.
