The Duchess and Piney lay together on the floor of the cabin in peace. Not saying a word for hours. They lay there while the last embers on the fire go out. They slept that day and the next as well. They stayed this way until help arrived wiping the snow of their faces. Their faces expressed serenity with their arms around each other. Francis Bret Harte was born on August 25, 1836, in Albany New York, and died May 5, 1902 in London. Harte’s family arrived in New York and also in Brooklyn in the year 1845. The sad truth is that this isn’t the case, my family saw this first hard on October 12th, 1993 when my brother passed away at the age of five. Even though I had yet to enter the world, I grew up seeing the emotional effect it had on my family. Till this day every year we light a candle once a year. Before I graduated from high school, I had a five year plan all thought out for myself. FIrst, I would attend SUNY Albany and obtain a degree in business. Then, I would attend a cosmetology school, get the 1,000 hours needed to take my state board exams, take those exams and get my cosmetology license. All of this would eventually lead to opening my own salon in the future. About a month before my graduation, my mom, 37 at the time, was rushed to the hospital. She had a stroke in the middle of…

Albany When we drove down to Albany it was about a 4.5 hour car ride south of Perth. The Longitude and Latitude of Albany is 35.0228° S, 117.8814° E. It is located on the tip of South West Australia. The car ride down had a lot of traffic on the Albany Highway which links Perth to Albany. But eventually when we passed the city there wasn’t as much. Along the ride I enjoyed the scenery of the farms with lovely animals such as horses and cows. Albany established itself as an important European…

The character of Albany in the play, “King Lear,” changes from the way he appears in the beginning to the way he appears at the end. This change occurs as he demonstrates the characteristics of meekness, courage, and peacemaker. In the beginning of the play, Albany has few speaking lines. In fact, he does not say much until Act IV Scene II. By this time, when he starts to recognize how evil his wife, Goneril, is, he is courageous as he grows more and more disgusted with his wife’s treatment…

Traveling through New Albany, I occasionally force myself to stop, and for a brief moment, see the community from the viewpoint of a newcomer—a picturesque town with white fences, manicured lawns, and stately buildings. As a resident, I am lucky to see beyond this viewpoint and experience everything New Albany has to offer, from the excellent schools, to the farmers market, and to its generous people. Over the years, I have become increasingly involved in various community service-oriented…
